Things like ''Collected works'' epubs can be pretty heavy files D.H Lawrence for instance is 30 mbs.
Mistakes can happen late at night after a few beers on little screens and you may not notice in time to disconnect the server...,...not the end of the world of course, but a confirmation request would grab your attention and for those who dont drink beers or make mistakes you could just switch it off in the options.
I see you've already done this one in the last update!
Brilliant !,...
thanks very much.

Love the new feature: "Allow Automatic Connection"
A couple of questions...
1) Do I need to leave CC running on my device?
2) Is there a way to automatically delete selected items that are replaced daily? In other words, I don't need yesterdays' news paper when the new edition downloads today. Calibre has this, and I think it would be extremely useful for CC as well.

No. If CC is not running a special "connection service" will start. If it is running then the connection service will run inside the current CC instance. The timer will be restarted if you reboot your device.

No. The problem is that CC doesn't know that "news book B" is a later edition of "news book A". It also doesn't know if you have read the previous "book".

Note that calibre can optionally delete the book when it is sent to the first device, in effect pushing management of the news articles to the device. People have asked that calibre be able to delete old news on a device, a request that Kovid has consistently turned down for reasons I fully understand. Also, calibre can delete news older than "N" days, but this has no effect on news sent to a device.

You can select "News" in the grouping drawer to see what is on the device, then delete the ones you do not want from book details.

What I actually do is open an app named ES File Explorer, and go to the Calibre_Companion\News folder and manually delete yesterdays files. Then I go back to the Calibre Companion app and delete 'books with missing files' from the settings menu.

That is an efficient way to deal with it.

I love the new Companion feature "Allow Automatic Connection" as I mentioned above. But it makes me really appreciate Calibre's ability to delete news older than 'x' days. I would really like this feature in Companion (although manually deleting old news is not difficult, sometimes I don't have time, etc.) If it could detect that the item is already on the device, perhaps it could just automatically delete it (doesn't really matter if it's older or not, you could just assume the version on Calibre is newer since it has the feature to delete old news anyway) and it also doesn't matter if it's read or not if the user chooses to use this feature.

I have built automatic delete after N days. I described it in the thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=260556. We should discuss it there.

Charles, Do you suppose you could do a six book wide widget to go along with the current four book wide one?

Yes, this is possible, but it opens the question "why not N?" where N is 5, 6, or 8 or some other value.

It might be possible to add a configuration step to the grid widget to specify the number of covers it is to contain. This isn't something I have done before so I don't know how easy/practical it is. Widgets are quite different from "normal" GUI widgets. I will look at it.

A wish:
May it be possible to set and recognize for each different view a own sorting order?
Example:
Autor view: set and remember sort order A-Z
Serie view: set and remember sort "Serie"
etc.
I hope i could explain my self.
Thanks

Yes, you can do what you want. In CC, go to Settings, Automatic Sorting When Grouping and tap on "Sort when tapping a group". For each group (author, series, etc), you can choose which to apply when that group is selected in the grouping drawer.

You might want to set up a user-defined sort before you choose which sort goes with which group. For example, for "Series" several people like to use the user-defined sort "Series, then Author, then Title"

THis might be good (if it isn't a ton of work) because looking at it again, I might be happier with 5 books rather than 6. Its just that the blank space on the right bothers me.

As I said, only if it is easy. Thanks.

Can't you just increase the size of the widget to fill the whole width of the device? It will still only be 4 books but at least it'll look balanced.

It looks balanced, but the blank spaces between the books give me a headache.

If you also increase the vertical size then there wouldn't be any extra space between the books.
