Amazon has the original Harte Family trilogy (A Woman of Substance, Hold the Dream, To Be the Best) by Barbara Taylor Bradford plus some others for free.

ETA: careful with the one-click. Hold the Dream and To Be the Best show $0.00 when it lists her books, but when you click on the link to go the book's page the price is $6.99 I guess they are free only for Prime members.

In the listing of all the books by a particular author it shows that they're free to borrow for Prime members. I think that's a confusing way to list books in the prime lending library

Yeah, the others are "Read for Free" if you are a Prime member. Oh well. I would stop after book 3 in this series. The later books were meh and she rewrote some of Emma's history But I enjoyed the first three when I read them. They are more soap-ish/family saga, but there are HEA for some of the characters (provided you don't go past book 3...)

Yeah they are free to read but you only get 1 book a month to borrow which I think Amazon need to up to 2 because they are raising the price of Prime.

Sorry! This is wildly off topic but I thought maybe someone would have an answer. I saw this in the ARe newsletter and wondered if someone here knows the name of the book:

"think it was a Mills and Boon or Harlequin or similar book from the early to mid 1980s. I can't recall the heroine's name but the hero might have been called Adam. I think the girl was in New Zealand and she meets an American Marine. She was fairly innocent and I remember that when he brought her home after being at the beach and they end up making out on the living room floor, he stopped when he realized she had nothing on under her dress (she had taken her bikini off because it was wet).

At some point he visits her family and meets her younger sister named Colette (the only name I am definite on). Colette is more worldly and a bit of a b***** and makes a play for the hero, who turns her down saying that the heroine has more sex appeal in her little finger than Colette. I think Colette may have also been married.

The Marine marries the heroine and they go to his base in America. Something goes wrong and he becomes distant with her. He starts going out every night and she thinks he has another woman. When she confronts him, he denies it and says that she will know when he is going to meet another woman if he showers etc first before going out. I think there might have been a suspense element as well with someone following her in America but I can't remember the details. I do remember that at the end they end up back on a beach making love."

Someone suggested an answer in the current newsletter but I think it is waaay off.

Wow maybe someone will know. We all have those books we've been looking for and can't find.

I have two I have looked for years to find and sometimes I think I made it up but they are out there somewhere!

My Two are

1. She meets this guy at masquerade ball and this is where it gets fuzzy they later that night or sneak off during the party and meet on boat or gondola and he deflowers her, She gets preggers from it and years later they meet again. I can't remember if she is married or not but seeing they wore masks neither one knows each other I think. It's historical that I'm sure of. I wanted to say it had a white cover with mask on it but I may be imagining that.

2. It's a western I believe historical but I may be wrong the heroine is a Princess and the hero is a sheriff or lawman who arrested her and throws her in his jail. It is not Nan Ryan Princess goes west.

Both were in published in the 90s I believe because I was at Walmart when I looked at them but I was sooo broke when I was in my teens I could only afford a precious gem romance at the time so after skimming through each I put them back and vowed to buy them someday and yet I've never found them again.

I hate regretting not buying a book. Thank heavens for wishlists now so they can be noted somewhere reliable for later. Of course the other problem was things going out of print. I can't wait for the day when all the backlists are digitised.

None of those descriptions sound familiar to me. Blossom and cadele, you should try over at AAR or with Sarah at SBTB. Both places have posts of this type.

I've only ever known the answer to "What's the name of the book" a few times.

Yeah I always trying to find HABOs over there for others and actually did once thanks to being able to search the blurbs at FictionDB. I don't think anyone would know though. It's a lost cause unless we can time travel someday. *sigh*
