Way late to the party here, could somebody be so kind as to send me the image as well? I hadn't used mine in a while and the update messed my device up as well. Thanks so much in advance!

Eoaka: Which version of the WiFi? There are three. The model number should be on the end of the device. It could be N647, N647B or N289. You need the correct image to get it working.

There is a sticky post linking firmware versions for different models yet every forum post I come across for the n289 image (which I need) is full of "PMed you" as if this version is taboo.

Not sure what is worse, the bricking off the Kobo or reading endless forums where specific users have to sign up and ask for someone to privately message them the image (or the link to).

Now that my piece has been said, I am in need of an image for n289 as the patching system is working as well as ever.

@TacoGS: You are talking about two very different things.

The firmware links thread points to the location on Kobo server of the firmware upgrade packages. Normally, these are downloaded to the device over WiFi or using the desktop application. Then the device installs them over the existing firmware. These are only useful if you have a working device and want to downgrade the firmware or upgrade it early. While Kobo do not publish the links, it is fairly easy to find them and the files are on a publicly accessible server. And thread does have at least one link to a firmware package for the WiFi. There hasn't been many releases for it since the thread started.

The images are for people that have bricked their device. The images were created by someone opening their working Kobo ereader, pulling out the internal micro SD card and taking an image of it. That means they can contain files not in the update package and hence could contain copyrighted software. As such, posting them in a public location would be wrong. But, I feel that making them available to owners of Kobo devices to fix a major problem is a reasonable thing to do. So, the image files are somewhere, when someone asks I PM them the link to image. Hopefully it helps them and so far, Kobo have not complained.
