As far as I can tell it's best for everything - colour, contrast, sharpness - to have as much sunlight as possible (or other white light I guess) blasting on to it. So a 500W ultrabright white LED floodlight would probably make a good reading lamp.

Yeap , that way the cost of electricity will make the cost of the ereader look small

I guess you meant a 500W incandescent right?

A 2W LED gives about as much light as a 30W, and a 10W LED as much as a 100W incandescent.
500W on LED light would equal about 4kW on incandescent light, you'd be fried to death; lol!

Anyways, I thought someone mentioned the stronger the light, the more washed out the image looks?

You are wrong my friend! Reading a forum can sometimes be like reading a book, only more interactive!

I don't know what to like more, reading good books, or having good conversations. I find the old books like Robinson Crusoe, I can still learn from. Most modern books just tell a story without any real life experiences in them, and really lose a lot of depth (at least when reading fiction). So I find a lot has been lost in writing a book. (and I'd learn much more from a forum, than from a book like that)..
Sometimes I ask myself the question if the writer of Robinson Crusoe really has been stranded on an island, for he comes up with very realistic notions, like seasons of flu, how to make clay pots, carpentry and other steels, and a lot of things which you'd probably only realize when you're really IN that kind of lifestyle (of a man stranded on an island).

Or what about Jules Verne. Even though it's not as realistic, it does have some realistic settings, like the way they make deadlines on time or not, is totally random! Not predictable, like everything goes worse, until the last moment when they triumph victoriously, like 99.9% of Hollywood movies!

For this gem you deserve a recommendation

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...9750/routyp-20

However sending the conversation in this direction has nothing to do with JetBook but confirms Carr's point of view. Media tends to modify the way we think

Jetbook Color - about satisfaction

I read a lot of comments about JBC: positive and negative (most because of software problems and some because of lack of contrast in non bright environment).
Yet I don't understand if you (possessors) of the Jetbook Color, are satifaied of it or not.

In other words: the JBC would be your choise if you haven't bought it?

Who would buy a product with which he/she is not satisfied with?
Actually there was only one review completely and over the board positive.
This person practically disappeared from the scene(probably exhausted by too much enthusiam).
Most of the comments show not a lot of satisfaction.
I guess a lot depends on the soon to be improved software.
If they put a lot of effort into it, it could work out positively ...

About the lack of sleep function - the problem does not exist

I ask to sleep matter to Eacto support and they say me that what’s really cool with the software is that it puts itself to sleep when you’re not using it: when you use it you’ll see a blue light pop up above the Menu key. When it turns off (after about 4 seconds of no use) that means it’s in sleep mode.

When I bought mine I fully expected it would have a web browser. And highlighting. And stylus scribbling. And all the other things it was advertised as having. But it doesn't, so I'm not very satisfied.

Maybe it will soon, but if I'd known in advance the state of the software as of today I'd have probably waited to buy one.

I would recommend you wait for the new firmware to be reviewed before deciding. Unless, of course, you want to support the idea alone (of creating such a useful device).

I'm waiting to see if either firmware update fixes the problems that people such as yourself have highlighted.

Buying cutting edge technology is always a risk.

Been burnt before by this - never again.

I hope it does turn out to be the device that everyone thought it would be.

Until then I'll patiently bide my time.

cheers
