What are the other differences?
Quote:
I saw this about the Coby elsewhere on the internet: "it has its own market called GetJar which is pretty useless because it doesnt have good apps." However, the Kindle Fire will also have it's own app store and may NOT be compatible with other Android apps. Coby has a capacitive multi touch controls powered by Android OS 2.3 high-speed 1 GHz processor. Doesn't the Kindle Fire have a 2 GHz processor and has its own mainframes speeding up web access by Silk? Plus, the only eReader app for the Coby will be the Aldiko E-book reader application. Can that one read Kindle eBooks? Plus, the Coby was released Oct 1, 2011. The Kindle Fire will be released on Nov 15, 2011. Thus, the Kindle engineers can look at the Coby and build in advantages. The Coby engineers had not seen a Kindle Fire when they went gold. How about giving us the comparative attributes of the Coby and the Fire? I'm primarily buying the Fire to read Kindle eBooks in low light situations. I presently use the 3rd Generation Kindle Kbd WiFi but need good light for that. Will Coby have a Kindle app? Will there be many differences between the Coby/Kindle App and the Kindle Fire native software to read Kindle eBooks? Last edited by sirmaru; 11-01-2011 at 03:16 PM. |

The KF has a better processor and display. It's probably got a better battery life too. Those are it's advantages. The reason I went with a Coby instead of the Fire is we still don't know if the Fire which has a hybrid of Andriod 2.3 if you will be able to sideload apps without rooting. I can sideload apps on the Coby straight out of box and I can sideload the Android Market as well without rooting. That means I can use Dropbox, Es File Explorer and other apps I consider must have if you own an Android device. The downside of the Coby tablets is battery life. It lasts from 4 to 6 hours. It has a WiFi quirk that requires a Market app to fix but other then that for the price it's a great deal! ![]() I use Mantano to read my books. It's the best eReader App out there for Epub in my opinion. I'm so happy they now have a free version because it's a great app! ![]() Edit: Dual core doesn't mean the speed is double. It's 1.2ghz processor. Dual core usually means two cores that make up the same speed as a one core processor. So it's going to a be a tad faster than the Coby 1ghz. Core effects.

Anyway, you definitely will have your Coby 2 weeks before I get my Kindle Fire. Plus, if you like epub ebooks better than Kindle ebooks, then definitely the Coby is better. I only read Amazon Kindle eBooks and my wife uses a Sony PRS 500 to only read Sony eBooks. Last edited by sirmaru; 11-01-2011 at 06:02 PM. |

New Nook Color to compete with Kindle Fire
Computerworld - Barnes & Noble has invited the news media to a New York event on Monday, sparking speculation that the bookseller will announce a lower-cost Nook Color tablet computer that matches or beats the $199 price of the upcoming Kindle Fire.
It looks like a flood of new tablets will hit the streets right before the Kindle Fire is released. I'm still sticking with the Kindle Fire for me. I'll use it as a low light environment eReader to supplement my 3rd Generation Kindle Keyboard WiFi. By the way, see this link: http://gizmodo.com/5854973/amazon-is...uin-the-kindle Evidently some publishers are being allowed by Amazon to limit the number of devices on which their eBook can be read. Thus, those buying non-Fire tablets may NOT be able to read some Amazon eBooks on their non-Amazon devices. Even those using a Kindle 3, a PC and a Kindle Fire may soon only be able to install their eBooks on just one of those devices - not all. Last edited by sirmaru; 11-02-2011 at 09:05 AM. |

Coby 7922 update.
In an earlier post I had made note of having a problem with my new Coby 7022 touch screen. (It would not respond to a stylus and was otherwise not very responsive).
After trying everything I could think of I called CobyUSA customer service. I described the situation and went through a couple checks with them and they said I had a defective unit. So ToysRUs gets it back. In fact, it's on its way. Regards - John |

Also, Amazon does not control the publishers. See what Apple and the publishers did to the $9.99 ebook bestseller - they killed it despite Amazon's best efforts to resist. |

And that gizmodo posting has been all but completely retracted, it was just a bozo writer without a clue.

Sick the kitty on'em. ;-) I'm sorry, that avatar just makes me happy every time I see it!
Though I wouldn't be surprised if that Amazon/publishers/device deal happened in the future. Or Apple and Amazon only. It's like the publishers are trying to kill themselves off. Is it just that model of Coby with a wifi problem? Mine never had any trouble with wifi. Took it longer than the Galaxy to get a connection, but it's not like those extra seconds were going to ruin my day or anything. ![]() ![]() |

Nook Color will be quad core.
Quote:
http://www.computerworld.com/s/artic..._sub_200_price It will be Quad core versus single core for the Coby and dual core for the Kindle Fire. From that article I see this quote: "However, Bob O'Donnell, an analyst at research firm IDC, said it isn't clear that any tablet running less than Android version 4.0, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich, can take advantage of the fast speed of a quad-core chip." For me its still Kindle Fire. I'm loyal to Amazon and their brand of eBooks. I buy almost all my other internet purchases from Amazon and can really say nothing I have seen can beat the Amazon Customer Support. I wonder if Amazon will be giving us Android 4.0 to go with its alleged revolutionary Silk for tablets?!? Last edited by sirmaru; 11-02-2011 at 09:33 PM. |
