I believe it's "Blue Riband".
And I, too, find it interesting that this "secret" is suddenly being touted at the same time as its keeper's book is appearing. Soooo coincidental. |

A Titanic quiz is available here:
http://www.livescience.com/php/trivia/?quiz=titanic Warning: If you get fewer than 10 correct answers out of 15 questions, you go down with the ship. Disclosure: Fat Abe flunked the test. I did not do too well on the sex test either. ![]() |

That's correct. This "just-revealed secret" has been public knowledge for decades. I believe it was actually discussed as part of the initial inquiry into the disaster.

There is also the fact that Capt. Smith had briefly been in command of Titanic's sister ship and had had problems with it as well. He wasn't used to such a big ship as Titanic and her sister ships were. And the watertight compartments only went so far up so when the hull was compromised water would pour over one set of plates and begin filling the next compartment and the rest is history. And of course the last survivor of the sinking just died this last year (she had been a very young child) so there is no one left who was there who can say yes or no to what actually happened.

My theory is that the captain was reading a Kindle while steering.

I couldn't figure out how that was possible, given that it was shot in 2D. So I Googled. And so far I still haven't found out how. Though I did find a quote from Cameron saying that it would really be sort of 2.8D.
