The reason i am not doing collections as 3500 books would take forever and if the kindle self destructed i would have to redo it.

in any case my solution is elegant and minimum fuss.

i tried your suggestion and you can just key in authors full name or partial name.

also you can renumber prefix your books too using lupus from 1 to 3500 in any order thus making collections a non-issue.

my quoted speed of 5 seconds is in error for 12 pages of contents.

i have 204 items now and 21 pages of contents and holding down the < or >
buttons i can go from page 1 to page 21 in 5 seconds!

could someone else test this as well and report back?

we want to find the ultimate speed.

i want the formatting of the books to be preserved.

i don't know if converting from lit,rtf and pdf to text preserves formating...

Frankly, it doesn't interest me enough to try it. The only "speed" factor I'm interested in on my Kindle is page turns... and I have no complaints there.

When would the time it takes to get from the first book to the last book on a loaded-up Kindle ever be relevant to a reader?

We are trying to find the time it takes to scroll through from contents page 1 page to contents page 350 for 3500 books stored on it.

i only have 204 test books and it takes 5 seconds to get from 1 page to page 21.

I realize that. My question is still valid. When would that ever be relevant to someone reading a book?

we need to push back the boundaries of ignorance.

Why do we travel into space? Why, indeed, did we trouble to look past the next mountain? Our prime obligation to ourselves is to make the unknown known. We are on a journey to keep an appointment with whatever we are.

we are on a journey.

If i am reading Asimov and and i suddenly want to compare to roger zelazny to make sure it was not the same passage accidentally i would need to rush to zelanzy and back.

We do not ask for what useful purpose the birds do sing, for song is their pleasure since they were created for singing. Similarly, we ought not to ask why the human mind troubles to fathom the secrets of the heavens. . . . The diversity of the phenomena of Nature is so great, and the treasures hidden in the heavens are so rich, precisely in order that the human mind shall never be lacking in fresh nourishment.

it is vital we all push forward and upwards.we must keep pushing onwards, push back the boundaries.

those who don't die a slow and horrible death as witnessed by the starvation of Africa.

I think the quickest way is to hit Home, type "zelazny" & hit Enter.

If I was looking for something in Google, I wouldn't want just one huge list where I needed to hit Next until I got to the Z's!

But if you want to hit Next through all of Google, starting with A, please time it and get back to us, just so we'll know.

K3 has almost perfect weight, light but not too light. Pretty good design too imo. The size is just right and UI / buttons are intuitive.

As for pdfs, I have a collection of almost 50 books in Urdu (yes it's a language ) and Arabic and surprisingly the quality is out of this world. Just for this it was well worth the $190.

Found your use of the word "weedy" very funny.
