If this was IE, then the easiest way to get the images without triggering alarms would be from the IE cache once the page has loaded. Presumably the same is true of Firefox, although I have less knowledge of how its cache works.

It is certainly possible to build a fully automatic Safari scraper; it's been done before (probably many times). But tech books are pretty much all available on p2p and gray file sharing sites already so if you want to cross that line you could save yourself the time and bother of scraping. IMO though the current e-book readers are terrible for tech books. Paper is just a much better medium. Maybe one day if e-book readers are high res, and fast, that will change.
