What could work: order the books in folders on PC in a category which contents one would like to have in the Collection in Kindle. Than one folder at a time, using Calibre, I would sent the books to the Kindle--create a Collection--put all these books in it by using the option (menu-add/remove items--menu:add all items on this page). Than move on to import the next folder(=create next Collection )to the Kindle etc. Obviously this would only work if one hasn't downloaded any books on the Kindle. I guess I should have though about this before downloading any books; it might have saved me some time? Last edited by desertblues; 09-20-2010 at 05:19 AM. |

I currently have a Sony PRS-505 and am thinking about getting a Kindle. However, I organize my ebooks by collections, according to specific types of series (i.e. Star Wars, Stargate, etc..). On the Sony, I can select 'collections' from the main menu, and the collections appear in alphabetical order according to series name. My question is can I use Calibre to transfer these collections of ebooks to the Kindle? If so, how will I find them on the Kindle? Is there a similiar menu on the Kindle? Another way of looking at this is, what does the main menu of the Kindle look like?
Thank you. |

Calibre can't automate the process of adding books to collections on the Kindle, but as far as the collections themselves go, they work pretty much the same as the do on the Sony.
By default, if you sort by collections, you'll get them listed in "most recently accessed" order. One useful tip is to prefix all your collections with a character such as "_" (underscore) and then sort books by title. If you do that, you'll see all the collections first, in alphabetical order, followed by the books. |

I'm a big fan of the underscore and double underscore for sorting collections. I think the underscore is the least visibly intrusive of the symbols that can be used.
All of mine are named with double underscores for Genres and single underscore for Series __Fantasy __Science Fiction _Forgotten Realms _Sword of Truth |
