Oops...I had wanted to put this in my own thread. Apologies to the mods.

I haven't really played with my 350 long enough to give a good solid review. My biggest complaint right now is actually the size. My fingers were getting cramped and my hand would lock up when I was trying to navigate and hold it with my left hand. I was using the buttons exclusively.

The clarity is amazing. The K2 looks blurry by comparison. Page turns are swift, maybe a nanosecond or three faster than my K2, which was my fastest reader. I had been concerned originally over the 5" size and my eyes/stigmatism. But, I was able to read on the SMALL font setting for a little bit. I haven't used it long enough to know if this will be a big difference.

Probably in the minority, but I love the thumbnail view. It's fun to have now that I got all the hiccups removed.

All in all, it's good to have a Sony in my hand again.

Now I want to get the standby screen working and figure out how to put my own pictures in there. I want to use the book covers from everything in my library. It may be a problem, but we'll see.

The easy way to get the pictures in is with the Sony Software - just import the pictures to it and transfer them to the reader. There also should be a way to do this simply via the windows explorer tho I haven't looked for the folder yet.

The options for the standby screen can be found under Settings, System Management, Standby Screen. To select which pictures will be displayed, go to the Applications menu. The pictures menu is on top, click to see all and toggle them on/off to select which you want to be displayed during the standby screen!

Thanks Squirsher. It was taking too long to get all 141+ on my 350, so I just put 10. K* for you for the help!

I understand that, but I was interested in confirmation that they fixed it for all new models, not just a one-time upgrade for the 900.

Just the newest models (hardware) or the newest software? I just got a new prs 300, older hardware of course, but loaded the newest software from the Sony site which says it is enabled for the new 350 and 650. I have immediately run into the "protected page" issue on library downloads. It won't read the epub files after first opening library PDF files. Same files work fine on Nook but not the 300, even with newest software. Would be helpful to know if this problem arises on the 350.

The firmware on the PRS-900 and later models has a fix for the problem. The PRS-300 does not. The version of the Sony Library software has nothing to with it.

Thanks for the clarification iduna. Sorry for the temporary tread jack, but is there a work around for this issue, assuming there is no firmware update for the 300? If not, it's back to the store for the 300 as library books (some are epub and some PDF) for my son was it's primary purpose.

Update: From a little further research it looks like it's a pervasive problem for the 300s and 600s without a known cure so back goes the 300. Will get another Nook for my son, when the prices go down a bit further.

I'm wondering about the note-taking feature on the 350. Can you leave a 'note' open and switch back and forth between the book you're reading and the note? (Without pressing a whole series of buttons and waiting forever?) How about copying and pasting text into a note?

After using my new 350 today in some different environments, I'd like to make a couple of additional comments.

The screen really is excellent. Today I used the 350 in many situations which always required me to futz around with the angle of 600 to make it readable. The 350 was easily readable on the small font under all real-world conditions I used it in today. A huge improvement in the quality of the reading experience compared to the 600.

Heat and page-turn speed--I took the 350 with me to lunch today and sat outside in the balmy 98 degree temps (hey this is Phoenix and 98 isn't really hot). I was sitting in the shade, but the page turn speed did slow down somewhat as the lunch progressed. It sped up again once I was back in air conditioning. The slow down is no big deal at all, though. It might have taken twice as long to turn the page, but I don't think so. That still makes it faster than a 505.

I am very happy with the 350.

Once they discontinued the 300, 505, 600 etc. that was IT - no firmware upgrades!
