One of those cancerous irritant warts that like to knock her work eh?
Consider the the mantissa of the literary abilities this woman brought to bear:

Quote:
In Ros' last novel, Helen Huddleson, she named characters after fruits, including Lord Raspberry (and his sister Cherry), Sir Peter Plum, Christopher Currant and the Earl of Grape. And Ros' penchant for alliteration resists restraint: The villainous Madame Pear, she wrote, "had a swell staff of sweet-faced helpers swathed in stratagem, whose members and garments glowed with the lust of the loose, sparkled with the tears of the tortured, shone with the sunlight of bribery, dangled with the diamonds of distrust, slashed with sapphires of scandals...."

I do hope Cherry Raspberry married someone suited. Sir Plum maybe? Cherry Plum sounds nice.

When I get the e-text, I'll know for sure, but I'm guessing Cherry ends up with the Earl of Grape (Cherry Grape sounds good too!).
The more ribald comment would be: who gets the Cherry pop?

I am shocked you can think of such an inappropriate pun with regard to this immortal prose!

Also, Cherry Currant might have appealed to her love of alliteration...

I'm merely making a pun to lighten the mood - when you get to talking about Amanda one can get too caught up in praise and serious examination of her alliterative genius!

Some currants run deep eh?

Although I haven’t read the novel, I would imagine it runs something like this:

Lady Cherry Raspberry (the sister of Lord Cumquat Raspberry) has a bitter detractor in the shape of the beautiful Lady Leticia Lemon-Lime. The two battle it out, hoping to win the favours of the wealthy Earl of Grape (first name Guava). Although neither lady knows it, the Earl is a jackfruit, an impostor, masquerading as one of his fruity betters. He seduces the Lady Raspberry, pops poor Cherry; she is abandoned and forced into the workhouse, where she develops the recipe for her famous lemon tea. And then, with the unexpected backing of Lady Leticia Lemon-Lime, the two go into business together, make their fortune, develop a time machine, and, in an unexpected plot-twist, disappear from the face of the Earth.

Of course, it might not actually run like that, but you can usually tell.

Brilliant, Luke King, but one must not forget the infamous Madame Apple Pear and her attempts to blindside and seduce Lord Raspberry!

This extraordinary woman made significant additions to literary history, recording dialects for us to read in the future! Some say they're hard to read, but they're really useful!
Take this example:

"How soniver, it seems Beer nex no name til keep dye thing goin ir to keep dthe grandfater ive it birrelin ahes capital's lack mae own".

She clearly lived in a very creative space where identity is arbitrary rather than fixed..
Despite all that ambiguity she was so productive when it came to her epic works!
The mainstream publishers wouldn't have her (her brilliance quite clearly unsettled them) but at least her loving husband ensured her work was published (at great expense to him too!) to be enjoyed by the generations to come.
