Perfectly happy and sticking with my K2i for now. (If I had one of the early K2 US versions with poorer screen contrast, I'd likely feel differently.)

I did drool a bit over the Kindle 3, but the k2i is already an incredible experience. I haven't seen the screens side by side in person, but I've never had a readability problem except in very dim light. They're called lamps! I suppose I'll upgrade if a future version has a color screen that doesn't compromise on B&W readability, but that's hardly a killer feature for me.

Since you can presumably take it outside and read without it taking 4 seconds to turn pages, I would say stick with your K2, at least until they fix the problem. Though considering Amazon doesn't seem to even acknowledge it...might not happen.

I am very happy with my K2.
I have toyed with the idea of upgrading, but my K2 is a wonderful e-book reader, and I would have a hard time scraping together the money right now, anyway. In the meantime I can wait and let everyone else check out the new build for me :-) |

Very happy with the Kindle 2i ... and very happy to gift to my husband while I enjoy the Kindle 3.
Life is good, and it's better with a K3. ![]() |

I am also very happy with my K2. I got it when they were about $300 and even knowing they are half the price now, I do not regret the money I spent. I have had a great year so far with my K2 and do not find the screen hard at all to read on, so the improvement is not a big motivator for me. I do see myself upgrading eventually, but not to the K3---I expect within two years, there will be a K4 with colour, so my thinking now is unless the Kindle breaks first, or some sort of game-changing new device comes out that has the features I find essential (I use both text to speech AND multilanguage dictionary support and only the Kindle supports both of these right now) then I will skip the K3 and get the K4.

Very happy with my K2 and not planning on upgrading. I don't doubt the new screen is much better, but I find it very comfortable reading the K2.

I was happy with my K2 but when I read about the improved screen I wanted to see for myself. The K3's screen is significantly better than the K2's in a side by side comparison. With my lousy eyes, it was worth it to me to purchase the K3. My daughter is very happy with her new (to her) K2 which she named "Karen" after Plankton's computer wife (you need to be a Spongebob Squarepants fan to appreciate the reference.

I (jokingly) suspect that build quality on new TVs is 'not as good' as a 1953 cabinet built model....but Amazon have increased their customer-base for e-books exponentially!
I'm a new Kindle owner, and that was only made possible by the pricing of the Kindle 3. Having said that, I suspect I wouldn't be changing it right now if I had a K2 |

Is it only me that finds this post silly ?, Sorry but the K3 are certainly cheap enough now that you could trade your K2 for a K3, Seems worth it for the better screen contrast alone.

Yes I was lucky when I sold my Kindle just after the K3 came out - sold for £136 and my new Kindle 3G was £149 so the trade in almost paid for the new one. Kindles seem to hold their price quite well on eBay.

Well, now I don't feel so bad. Maybe I should wait until all the bugs get worked out on the K3?

I feel exactly like you do. Sometimes I'm lured but I am very happy with my K2 and as long as it doesn't break or I don't find a reason to gift it to my wife

The screen on my K3 is much better than the one on my K2. But you should bear in mind that past e-Ink screens have tended to lose contrast as they age, especially in the first months. So some of the better contrast is probably attributable to the fact that the K3 is just newer--a brand new reader always looks better than one that's been used for a while, even if they are exactly the same model. Only time will tell if the difference will still seem dramatic over the long haul.
