Well, the CS gave me the answer I expected, which is basically too bad, so sad. I see that someone purchased a unit at Target now. I guess Best Buy and Staples can't be all that far behind too.

As I said, it is disappointing that the website advertised first come, first served but reneged on the promise.

'sigh..........you are correct, Jon.

I resisted the K2 successfully......however, with the increased memory on the K3, (over the K1) I don't need a memory slot.

I have 858 on my K1 now, and haven't gotten the card halfway filled......I figure the K3s improved memory will hold me.

As for the replaceable battery, I've learned it CAN be replaced, easily, if I ever need it too. From all reports that won't be needed until I'm ready to trade up...again!

Even dinosaurs can adapt.........

It doesn't bother me (too much ). I selected free shipping so wasn't expecting to get it quickly anyway. I just thought it was strange they won't let me change my order today given that it's not expected to ship until Monday. Was thinking of bumping up my shipping method to 2-day.

They do seem to be giving free shipping lower priority. Since my kindle is finally close to shipping, I ordered a cover for it. The cover is listed as being in stock, and if you want it tomorrow, select overnight shipping. Well, I selected free shipping again. Expected ship date for the cover is Sep 21, with an expected delivery date of Sep 22 thru 25 (strange, since it's supposed to be 5 to 8 days).

Interesting.

Ordered early last evening......delivery showed the 17th.

When I got my confirmation email, delivery showed the 21st. Heart dropped.

So I just 5 minutes ago got another email from Amazon.......shippped and estimated delivery is back to the 17th.

I'm too old for these ups and downs......

I had ordered a White 3G on Sept. 2nd, and a few days ago got a Sept. 20th ship date estimate - one-day delivery the 21st.

After seeing that today they were offering in-stock shipping today, I cancelled the original order with the assistance of CS, and immediately re-ordered. Got ship date today, delivery tomorrow.

So either the earlier orders were not being shipped first today, or their web site was giving bogus and out-of-date ship date information, as it has been doing much of the time since last month.They have done a generally miserable job of handling customer communications re. shipping on the K3.

I emailed CS about not honoring the first come first served basis and they said that USA had stocks of all kindles but internationally they were sold out. Except that the kindles coming to Australia are the same as the ones used in the USA. Needless to say I am clicking on the 'did not answer my query' link.

At least you got more of an answer than I did. All I got was a parrot response saying that my Kindle will ship 21 or 22 Sept and expected delivery will be 27 Sept. And my order did lock on the page now too, I wonder if me email prompted them to lock me up? Probably just a coincidence though.

If they serve each customer base differently it should say so on the website. I have no problem waiting, I was prepared to wait anyway, but I did expect them to honour their word and serve us in order, regardless of shipping preference.

I am not locked yet. And yes, I got the ship by 20th thing too. But people ordering yesterday in the USA will be getting them the next day. You are right that should be stated on the website. And people ordering from the uk are even worse off.

Other than pilot error, I'm sure Amazon is doing its best to fill orders first-come, first-served. However, they do have multiple shipping points and its possible there are slight snafus with your order being at a facility that has a temporary shortage while another one can continue boxing and labelling. I doubt the wait is much longer for anyone who pre-ordered.

Finally got notice that my K3 wi-fi was shipped this morning via super saver shipping. Two days ahead of the 9/20 shipping estimate.

While browsing around the K3 discussion forum, I noticed 2 different people posted that they had called CS to ask why their units had not shipped when some who ordered after them had already shipped. Both posters said CS told them they were filling orders with paid shipping first, and to change the shipping method if they wanted it shipped sooner. I did that with my order for my K3 cover. Ordered the cover on Thursday 9/16, estimated shipping date was 9/21. Changed it today to 2-day shipping. My order immediately went to shipping soon, estimated shipping date 9/18, order is being prepared for shipment and cannot be canceled or changed.

So it would seem super saver shipping also means super slow service.
