Hard to say. I had a Clie I read on which I had purchased for other uses for I don't remember how much, and it reached the end of its natural lifespan. Then I had 2 Palm m125s which broke (hence, two) and I read on those. So maybe $100 for both of those (since I got them on ebay) which I later sold for $50. Then an ebookwise, bought for $100, sold for $50. Then a Sony, bought for $200 and sold for about that much (actually, I bartered that one for something else I wanted, but it was equal value). Then a Kindle for $300. Then a Libre for $150 which I sold for $75. I am not counting the iPad and iPod Touch since I got those for other purposes primarily. So about $400-500. I think.

My Bookeen Cybook Gen3 paid for itself in cheaper prices on books and magazines, mainly before the geographic restrictions kicked in at Fictionwise.
So, subtracting the £10 book voucher I got with it at Waterstones, just £119 for my Elonex 511EB. I made my own slipcase. Graham |

$229 Cad for Sony Prs-600
$168.99 USD for Kindle 3 for mother. I expect to buy new ereader for myself but will sell Sony first because much as I love it I don't need two. Hoping to get enough for Sony to pay 1/2 the cost of new ereader ![]() Helen |

Of course, that doesn't justify buying a Sony 350/650/950.... yet ![]() |

Kindle 2i - $259 + shipping
Kindle 2i Leather case (before it went up in price) - $29.95 + shipping I am planning to give this to my husband so am I at $0 again? *winks* Kobo - $149, in store pickup, no case Kindle 3 wifi - $139 + shipping Kindle 3 Blue Leather with built-in light case - $59.99 + shipping So, call it $400ish. But against that, I have bought ebooks, or borrowed ebooks, or read PD ebooks that would have cost me real money to purchase -- including some rareish ones from Archive.org. I can say, honestly, without fear of lightning striking me, that I have saved $400ish in out-of-pocket book purchases *had I read / purchased* these books I have so thoroughly enjoyed since getting an e-reader. And I can go further: I enjoy classic movies on DVD and Blu-ray and my purchases there are WAY down in 2010 because I am distracted reading. That savings alone is easily another $400ish. So, although my Kindle 3 is barely out of the box, this hobby has saved me money. How many hobbies do that?!? |
