Yeah, all this modularity and user choice is making it really hard to help newbies, as the first answer in nearly every thread asking for help is someone asking for some configuration detail or version and hardware information. We need to have a non-configurable system with mandatory updates (Calibre should stop working if not updated RIGHT NOW), that way we always what people are running using which configuration. Also, we need a system that not only automatically sends Kovid (or the forum, doesn't really matter) information on not only the hardware and software inventory of the computer Calibre is used on, but also on how much the user earns, what his dayjob is and what his mom ate for breakfast this morning. You know, just in case.

I can see having a forum that asks for the system you are running, etc. put into a sigline but expecting calibre to phone home with that data is too Big Brother for my taste. Same for expecting everyone to have to update when they becvome available. Some people are on slow connections. I'm on a fairly fast one and still have to try two or three times to get a download to succeed. Many of us (including me) like to wait a day or two before upgrading to make sure the new version is bugfree. Then there are those (including me) of us who just don't want to bother to upgrade unless the version has a change that will directly benefit us. |

Kovid chose to spell calibre with a lower case "c" instead of an upper case one. It's become a good natured standing/running joke here.

Ah, I see. Can you believe that I'm a member for about two years now and have never, until now, noticed that joke or even the spelling?
