Blakader, if you find you can stand the difference between eink and LCD screens, then look into the JB/JBL/Libre readers for your "library" ebook reader.

There is a thread ongoing titled "Why no clock" on the ectaco forum, where we were just discussing the merits of these ereaders for those who find that they take longer to read through library books then the 2-3 week lending period. If that sounds like you, then I don't think any other ebook reader will let you borrow several ebooks and allow you to read them all even after the lending period has expired. This is my main reason I still stick to my Libre

I would also suggest buying used. $100ish can get you a variety of ePub readers on eBay, or you may luck into a good deal on Craigslist.

Or Google apprenticealf and learn how to remove DRM from ePubs for calibre to convert. The transition from ePub-->Mobi seems pretty clean to me, although I ususally go the other way.

Well my wife checked the local target for the sony and didn't see it on clearance. I may go there my self. Borders.com is selling the libre for 99.99 and free shipping, but the jetbook mini does sound cool.. thanks again for all the help!

I am aware of the ways to get them on the kindle, but want to avoid that kinda thing...

Another option is to consider buying used given its a "second" reader.

I bought a used Sony PRS-505 as a second reader for library books (I also own a Kindle). I love it so much that it became my primary reader.

In fact, after contemplating a new reader, I decided to buy another used PRS-505 instead
thanks for the links... what makes the sony prs-505 your reader of choice?

Could you be more specific, pretty please? If I can get the Kindle 2 to work with my library books I'll probably buy it.

First, I don't really have any needs other than basic reading and organization. I already owned a Kindle but wanted a second reader that read library book. The Sony PRS-505 had a large loyal following and seemed more reliable than many other readers.

Then once I got my Sony, I found that I loved how it fit seamlessly in my handbag compared to the earlier Kindles. And that I could buy a cover with a built in light for it. The metal casing makes it feel solid. I've recently found that I prefer a 6" screen over a 5" screen.

I should note that I bought my mom a Jetbook last year. I didn't go with the Lite because I don't like having to replace batteries (I don't even like changing my book battery light). You can't beat a new Jetbook for the price...but I preferred the feel and battery life of my Sony.
