Found the 300 at Target for $90 and the 600 for $102 (all taxes included). Not bad. Snagged one of each for holiday gifts for my family

Wow. Those seem like really good deals! Esp. given the current price of the 350 and 650 which are mainly just an improved screen.

Yes, great prices. But the 350 and 650 both have "touch screen" technology, which makes them a lot more usable for things like highlighting and dictionary lookups (which is new in the Pocket Edition).

But yeah, at $179, the 350 is pretty pricey, considering you can get a bigger "pearl" screen for $139 on the Kindle 3 with built-in wifi for easier book purchasing.

But the only place you can buy books from is Amazon and I for one don't like being held hostage. With a Sony you have freedom of choice! You can buy from so many places and you can even borrow from a library. The only place I would take a Kindle even if it was given to me, was to a store to return it for store credit.

I don't like it. It's unattractive and for my needs and preferences, useless.

And yet you have or have had 2 Sony's and have bought a couple more recently to give as gifts. If you don't like it or the software associated with it why buy it much less give it as a gift to someone?

Many people love Sony devices, but LOATHE the Sony store and software. It isn't necessary to use the Sony software/reader store to use a Sony.

I am considering asking for a Kindle for Christmas, and have been busy converting books I have purchased elsewhere into mobi format, just in case. (OK, I'm realllllllllllllyyyyyy considering asking for a K3). So, owning a Kindle doesn't lock you into the Amazon store, but it does make it easy to buy books on the fly. Something I can't do with my Sony 300, much as I love it.

We were in town this weekend and made stops at Best Buy and Target. Their old displays are so sad looking. I would've like to seen the new Sonys, but didn't really expect to. I did get to see the 900 for the first time though. I'd always wondered what its size & shape would be like in person. I also saw the Kindle for the first time. It looks so much better in Graphite! I still think that if I could replace my 700, it would be for a black 650.

I still haven't seen a 900...and I REALLY want to, or better yet, a 950. Hopefully when the 950's come out in November I'll be able to track one down. (To look at, not to buy..Chris would have heart failure if I wanted to replace my 600 this fast...)
