Thank you for all your replies concerning the sites from which you buy ebooks.

I have bookmarked Diesel and Fictionwise.

Try "justify". Or "left".
I have found that even doing this and converting the epub in Calibre with zero margins all round you still have a left margin of about 9mm and space at the top of the display for one more line and at least 2 lines at the bottom.

Does anyone know if this is a hardware limitation of the Kobo or the Visplex display?

It's not the hardware. Many epub files have an Adobe proprietary file that defines margins and such. It's got an odd extension which I can't recall - I think if you delete that then the margins can be fixed with Calibre or Sigil.

Adobe files are downloaded by the user as .acsm (or .ascm) and then loaded into Adobe Digital Editions, which it will then download the epub/pdf. To load into Calibre you'd need to remove the DRM to allow you to change the .css file (margins etc).

You can rename the .epub with a zip extension, use your unzip software, and remove the CSS file. Then change it back from .zip to.epub. When the reader was first released, the margins and narrow text were a big problem for some folks--especially for some reason with library books.

1.4 took care of most of these issues. In any case, if you will look at some of the early messages on this forum, you will see people doing the rename to zip-remove css file (or edit css file)--rename to original trick a whole lot. I believe there was a Calibre margin setting that some folks also changed when they did this, but I am old and my brain is full of noodles, so you may need to look it up...

Use Kobo Font Bulk Fixer, found here. I have noticed though the full justification option sometimes leaves words "hanging" on the right margin which means up to half the subsequent line is missing.

The software does work and coupled with Caibre, should give you the results you are after.

What I do is the following....

I don’t worry about the .CSS file at all.

1. Open the EPUB file with Winzip
2. Look for the page-template.xpgt file
3. Delete page-template.xpgt from within Winzip
4. Remove DRM
5. Add into Calibre
6. Convert using 0.0 pt margins set in the Page Setup options
7. I like page justification too

Cheers

Thanks for all your replies.
I found the "page-template.xpgt" file as suggested and after removing it I can say it does the trick.
There is now more text on the screen and not so much wasted space!
This is before using Calibre to narrow the margins down even further. I have not noticed any negative effects (yet).

Cheers
