If you're buying a DX then it is because you want the large screen so you can't really stick with the Kindle 3. The new DXG has the improved technology screen that the Kindle 3 has anyway. It is only missing WiFi and the 3.0 firmware which hopefully Amazon will release for the DXG.

Well, the update is important to us users in Asia. Since the 3.0 firmware supports more languages include Chinese, Japanese, etc.

Also the new browser technology is exciting.

Hope Amazon will release it for the DXG eventually.

I would like the firmware updates in 3.0 for the DXG. I bought mine before the K3 was announced, though it was rumored to be coming soon. Mostly I would like the new PDF features introduced in the K3.

I don't care about the browser updates because I don't surf with my K3 in WiFi, much less would I try to surf with my DXG with lousy 3G AT&T coverage.

WiFi in the DXG would have been great, but that cannot happen as it requires a hardware upgrade. I suspect that if Amazon continues the DX line the next version will include WiFi. But my way of looking at it is that I rarely take my DXG out of the home. I use it mainly for reading technical papers and large PDFs. So I don't benefit from 3G at all and it is fairly easy and quick to load books and docs via the USB connection.

I am hoping that the DXG gets the firmware update sometime soon. I know that Amazon is swamped fixing the glitches in the K3. When that calms down I expect that the DXG will get the upgrade.

Does that support actually work properly? Everybody I know that has tried it has complained that the font looks awful or it doesn't support the right character set.

When I first read a review for it, it said the same thing... horrible font legibility.

I'm showing my ignorance here, but would the font hack do you any good? I did the font hack on my DXG so it is capable of being hacked. But I'm not sure substituting a font will help you though.

I am wondering if anyone tried to contact amazon customer support to ask if there is any plan to update firmware for dx graphite user.

It is too bad to read articles about firmware update for Kindle 3 users because it seems like dx graphite is abandoned by amazon.
Why would you buy a product for what it will be instead of what it already is?

There's no PDF hyperlink support in K3, much as I would wish otherwise. But they did also add contrast adjustment, which is actually useful.

Yes, the font hack works fairly well. I created a combined font set that includes original kindle fonts and Chinese fonts. But it is still good know that the system is optimized to such use case.

I was wondering if the DX has the same (or equivalent) processor as the Kindle 3. If not I believe it would be too optimistic to assume an updated web browser wont it?

I haven't saw a review with screenshots. The font maybe looks awful but I hope a similar font hack can let replace the fonts :P

Aout the character set, I manage all of my documents in utf-8 format so it won't be a problem.

I'm very disappointed with 2.5 software on my new KDXG. As many of you already said people buy KDXG mainly because of better PDF experience, and now KDXG is missing many PDF improvements from Kindle Software 3.0, which, I believe, are a must have fo KDXG.

I'm afraid we will never get 3.0 Software.... The same was with K1, its software developement stopped at version 1.2. KDXG is designed the way K2 is (buttons etc.), and I'm afraid we will be left with 2.X software line. 3.0 will stay reserved for Kindle 3.... That really sucks ....

This is the curse of new technology. There are those who whine on the photography sites because the camera they bought two years ago doesn't have features that the newest cameras have.

I expect firmware updates to correct bugs and problems. New features? I don't think so and if I do get one it's a welcome treat and not something I think I'm due.

When I bought my KindleDX I thought I was buying an ebook reader. I didn't think Amazon had adopted me.

Yea, but is not the same here. DX 2 Graphite is the newest product for the DX line, there is no newer GENERATION. Because of that they should keep support it with new Software Version - because there is no this alternative "If you want new features, then go buy the newest product" - DX2G IS the newest product. Not to mention that there is no hardware barrier for introducing this new features to DX2G. Not to mention that it is their most expensive product as for now and it mainly designed for better PDF support. It would be fair from Amazon to introduce at least PDF support improvements from K3 into DX2G line.
