Got a PRS-650 and tested it. First time I inserted my 16gb SD card straight from my 505 with 230 books it froze

After connecting the 650 to my computer once, it now takes about 4 seconds to scan the SD card, much faster than my 505

Will test later with more books.

As an aside, I do not like the feel of the Sony lighted cover, compared to the trifold my 505 has. (It makes hitting the page turn buttons feel awkward)

Got my 650 and 350 ereaders today and loaded 2397 epubs into the internal memory of each (952MB in total). Both readers took just 5 minutes to scan the lot. I usually put my library onto a 4GB Sony MS for both the 600 and 505, and the comparative times there are 53 minutes for 600 and 15 minutes for the 505 running PRS+ with folder view active.

I then added 5 more books to the 650 and 350 by the drag-and-drop method. Both readers fired up and were ready for use in less than a minute from disconnecting the USB cable. This is a big improvement on the older readers but it's still not up to the speed of the software running the BeBook Neo or CyBook Opus.

I will keep the epubs in the internal memory to see how long the battery takes to run down - the presence of the memory-stick seems to consume some power itself.

Overall, I really like the new ereaders - the 350 in particular is amazingly light, small and just wonderful to read for long periods. Of the two, the 650 appears better built, with less plastic visible yet it too is so much smaller and lighter than the 600. It's too early to have a favourite yet but the 350 is just ahead.

That's excellent news. Thank you very much for posting the results of your experiments.

PS to my previous post:

I should have mentioned that once the 2400 epubs have been initially scanned, a subsequent power-down (shutdown) followed by a power-on will take just 1min 10secs for the reader to be ready for action again. Much faster than the old readers.
