That might make a good poll question, Azayzel.

I generally hit mine when it drops a bar or two, depending on how anal I'm feeling about it that day.

I found this great cable for a PSP that seems to work well. It is a split power/mini usb cable. Quite handy since it only uses one port, then splits it into data and power cables.
In the office, I use it and insert both plugs into the back of the docking cradle. When I go on the road I can just throw the one cable in my bag and I'm ready to go (and it charges my psp too!)

For me its seldom been a case of needing a recharge. It seems to get all the power it needs when I remove and load more books to the memory. I just finished 2 1200+ page books (created in Book Designer with the font on the 'S' setting) on the Reader and it still showed 3 of 4 bars remaining.

I'm like NatCH, I keep my wall charger next to my bed, since I read every night to put myself to sleep. If it's a bar down when I'm finished I let it charge overnight. Of course, right now it's still a bar down the next morning because I haven't bothered to do the soft reset after the upgrade.

Today I charged my reader for the first time (got it last week, but have been reading voraciously!).

I left it plugged in via USB for about 8 hours. To begin with, it was half-charged, and after unplugging, it still showed half charged.

I wasn't sure if this was due to having updated the firmware, so I tried plugging it in using the wall-plug charger. As soon as it was plugged in the battery indicator jumped up to full. I unplugged it straight away, and it's still showing ful charge.

Maybe that's another way around the "soft reset" issue?

I don't think so, donovanh (though that's a good thought), several of us, myself included, charge from the wall most of the time.

Mine did the exact same thing after the update although I didn't have it charging via usb but the regular wall plug. Red light had gone out...... reader didn't show any change in charge.... popped it back on the charger again and when it red lighted, it was fine...... something just isn't right with these things, seeing too much of this with others.

I did a soft reset and all was fine and now I don't even remember the sequence.

Somebody suggested earlier that it might be a matter of the battery meter software 'forgetting' what a full battery 'looks' like during the firmware update. that seems the most likely answer. And I guess as long as a simple soft-reset takes care of the problem I'm not too inclined to worry about it further, but that's just me.

I am trying to not worry about it, but I will say this. I don't think I am getting all those hours that Sony claimed...... BUT all I need to do is stick the plug in and charge is to how can I still complain..... well I guess I can in a way but that isn't going to change the battery situation.

I just happen to be testing that again presently: I'm down to 2 bars, and I've not charged it for a couple of weeks, which is about what I anticipated, and about what I got the first time I tried it in October.

In any case, if it lets me read all day and charges up overnight when I'm sleeping, I'm pretty cool with that as a minimum. Of course, it's still giving me a great deal better than my personal minimum.

Sony didn't claim any hours, just page turns
I read the entire Honor Harrington series (11 books, the last two about 1500 reader pages each, and about 700 -1000 for each of the others) with one recharge, of which I still have 3 bars left. That's pretty amazing battery life. I did have the battery meter issue after the update, I had to plug it into the wall while the book was on to cause it to realize it was charged.

I am having significant ghosting problems though. My ghosting is so bad I can sometimes read the entire page even when the book is off.

That is what I meant and my error. Well I am hardly getting that amount of page turns.

Some seem to get that number (I for one seem to as does bkilian) while others seem below that number. Assuming that it is a testing average it does not seem too far off the mark as some other eink readers have been reported to be.

As NatCh said, it meets our needs and no one has yet been able to exhaust it in a single day of reading. Maybe we need to read faster.
