I've got a bit of a live-wire 3 year old and I don't think any case would keep her out as she can undo poppers, zips or any other fastening.
I have just got into the habit of placing my Kindle where I know she can't reach it even if she climbed on a chair which is her latest trick. So I normally use the high kitchen cupboards - bit of a pain but easier when you get in the habit of "hiding" it when not in use. |

Although I have to say that I let my daughter play with my iPhone and that doesn't bother me at all as she bashes away at the screen - actually I'm being a bit harsh as she does know how to tap on the icons and swipe through photos and videos of herself! I think it's just that the Kindle feels more vulnerable. |

oh yes, I remember the sticky fingers days LOL and the whole house having to be kiddie proofed. So good when you don't have to think so hard about where to put things, my girl is all grown up now. Mind you 17 comes with its own problems

How have people gone with their standard leather kindle cover? I've noticed with mine that the elastic isn't as strong as it was when I got it (the front cover flaps a little when closed) and I noticed at the top where the elastic is sewn into the back about 1/2 inch of the elastic isn't actually stretchy/elastic, appears either to have slid out a little from the back or internally in the cord it is broken.
I wonder if it is worth contacting Amazon over it? Anyone ever contacted them over a faulty cover? |

For my previous ereader (BeBook/Astak) I had a book type cover, but the KDXG was already large and heavy enough naked, so I went for a sleeve case. I'm glad I chose the Timbuk2 as the nylon material feels a lot tougher than the neoprene sleeves I tried at my local shops. I re-inforced my sleeve with some 1.5mm aluminium sheet and 2mm neoprene. ![]() The duct tape has gone now and the alumnium sheet is glued to the neoprene. There's also a thumb cut-out to make it easier to remove the KDXG. |

I'm a new Kindle owner. Still charging it, so no opinion about it. However I'd like to know about cases. I don't have any kids, but I guess I'll be having it with me between home and work.
Is it too sensitive so a case is needed? If so I'm thinking I should get something like a protective envelope sleeve or something similar. Do you suggest I should get a full cover case that I can read my Kindle without taking it out? I find it a bit bulky. Opinions? |

I am fully in the Oberon camp, but there are many other cases and sleeves to look at. I always read at home naked, but when it goes anywhere with me, it is fully clothed. I do believe the protection is crucial if you are going to leave home. the bulk in most situations has never bothered me with my case(s)

If you're more of a 'sleeve' than a 'cover' person, take a look at Rogue Theory on Etsy. I've bought two of their custom sleeves and they're very nice indeed. $20 shipped, nice and snug, soft inside, padded without being too bulky, and they have a lot of designs. They arrive pretty quickly too, considering they're made to order (since they also make sleeves for iPads, Nooks, &c).

Thanks guys, lots of choices !
I'm also on the "naked at home" and "fully-dressed outside" wagon. It's legal for me, it' ll be the same for my Kindle I suppose. ![]() |

I actually swing both ways (!), sleeve at home for dust &c but naked reading, and an Amazon cover for 'actual' travel (ie: not walking to work or walking to the park).

My Timbuk2 case finally arrived - I quite like it. I read with my Kindle 3 naked, so this case is perfect for me.

Can't decide
Can't decide, but I think I just want a sleeve to protect. Thinking of getting one from PuppyDogsNPolkaDots on Etsy.

I'm on day 3 of using the basic black Amazon lighted cover for my K3. I don't have to worry about the kiddies getting goop on my stuff anymore (they're teenagers and are busy gooping up their own electronics) but I did worry about protecting my newest toy in my briefcase.
Instead of waiting for alternate covers to arrive in the local stores or for something purchased online to arrive, I went back to Target first thing the next morning after buying my Kindle and bought the lighted cover. The price is outrageous but it seems to be fairly high quality. It's practical/functional, doesn't add much bulk, and has an understated look that I like. We'll see how durable it is once I get used to carrying it everywhere rather than doing most of my reading on my phone. |
