One of these ports ALSO works as a 1.8V TTL serial console connector, see https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...=kindle+serial

Just in case it wasn't clear from Tiersten's reply, you need to eject it from the Windows Explorer program, on the left side where you see all of your drives, find the Kindle "drive" and right-click on it, then choose EJECT. Your Kindle will now exit the USB mode and will continue to charge while allowing you to use it. If you use the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" icon in the system tray next to the clock, it will not be usable until unplugged.

cool...thanks...very interesting. I hope you did not take my comment to imply they guy had no clue, he just was not familiar with the purpose of the connectors which I found funny because he was so excited to crack the thing open he didn't figure stuff out before the video...gotta love his enthusiasm for sure!!

Well, he really didn't have clue about lighted cover ;-)
He just rightly identified one of hinges as an interesting unknown data connector.

Looks like you review a lot of stuff, and have really good knowledge of electronic devices.

Good job.

I saw the original review a while ago, and thought it was pretty classy subjecting the device to environmental tests @ the lab.

Hi,

Is it possible to remove the processor, memory like you can in a PC or would you need to pry them off?

Fix sticky on/off Switch

Thanks to your video Dave, I was able to lightly lubercate my wife's kindle, knowing the on/off micro switch was off to the side of the slider. (Be careful with these things at the beach!)
