I like to keep the backup (collection) on the hard disk with data DVDs as an additional backup. I have about 2,000 fiction/scifi books in multiple formats that I have collected over the years. I also have a great number of engineering/science/history books that do not at this time lend themselves to conversion on the Reader.

Also, all books are in the internal memory. I too have removed the 2GB San Disk card from the Reader.

I'm a "what do I feel like reading today" kind of guy, and I just back from a couple of weeks in Hawai'i with the reader. Before I went, I loaded around 200 books onto it - basically anything I thought I might want to read while there. Mostly on the SD card. I only went through about 7 books, but it was nice be able to peruse a small library each time I chose a new one to start.

I have 467 but then I already had a large collection of LRF files from my Librie days.

I have a "dev card" with very little on it that I insert so I can re-start more rapidly after crashes whilst working on the mountable filesystem.

As soon as they're read, I pull the books away. I don't want to have to spend time looking for a book on the reader cause it's kind of slow at search.

I have a reading plan. I choose everything about 2 or 3 months in advance and rarely deviate from it.

Before I got the reader, I wanted to have everythig stored on it. I could if I wanted to but it's a lot of work to format everything. Instead it's better to do it as the reading plan takes shape. While formating, I take time to examin the text and savor the read ahead of time.

Books are not like pictures you can't appreciate a whole bunch of them in seconds, so you don't have to get them altogether in the reader. If it only had a 10mb memory I'd be happy with it still.

I have now 17 books on it. I don't like to put too many as the overview is gone. I hope in future firmware we will get (sub)folder support and that you will be able to cut, paste, copy and delete. In that way one could make a folder named "Read".

I tend to keep 2 or 3 series (either purchased from Sony or from manybooks.net) so when I finish one, the next is at hand. Then there are always the non-series stragglers. Just checked and today I have 36 books on the reader, but 6 of them are my daily RSS2BOOK feeds, and one the rarely used operations manual.

I have about 10. When I bought The Reader I intended, like others, to keep a whole library on the memory card but, like others, got frustrated at the lack of organizational tools. But I also like to have a wide choice of what to read next, depending on my mood at the time. I won't buy a paperback just to have it sitting around until I'm ready to read it, but I will buy any number of ebooks to have them handy. Sony's perfect customer, in other words.

Around 30. I usually read 3-4 books at the same time. Different stuff and always half in french, half in english. I don't need to carry hundreds of them with me like I do for music, though it's nice to have some more choice once you've finished something.
Oh and I also carry a few mangas on the SD card (other books are on the read itself but mangas take a whole lot of space compared to books).
I'll carry much more files once I'll start using some kind of newspaper generated with RSS, although I'll put all the feeds in a single PDF file ;-)

I've got 38 right now, all on internal memory. I haven't seen a need to use a card yet, and probably won't, since all my books are plain text. We'll see if that changes as I build my ebook collection.

How much of a power drain are we talking? I have a 2GB SD card in my Reader, and I know if I don't read for, say a week, I've lost perhaps a bar when I come back to my Reader. Is this power drain, or does the Reader drain power anyway (like an iPod)? Isn't the power drain to save us from having to do the entire boot process, so it's sleeping like an iPod?

I also used to keep a lot of books on the reader but have recently knocked it down to about 15-20. It's just too hard to navigate through the list.

I would love to be able to put a couple thousand on a card and carry my whole library with me, but Sony need to improve the organizational aspects of the reader and connect software.

I have 12 files, but I think there are only 3 or 4 different titles. I can read only 1 book at time anyway

I have 145 books on mine. 12 that I have in immediate line to read. Two that I am reading. A couple dozen or so poetry and literature books that I like to keep at standards. And the rest are "for when the mood takes me." I still have room for probably another 30 or 40. I had a card in with some MP3's but since I never listened and since I was worried about my battery life I took it out.

34 books at the moment, i got a 4GB sd card, but i guess it'll be a nightmare if i feed all my book on it. i'm thinking to buy several cheap small capacity memory stick/sd cards to use as my own collection
