This exact same thing happened to me yesterday and I thought I was going crazy! All of a sudden in the middle of a page turn my Kindle 3 just froze, it hadn't given me any trouble up until that time. I did a hard reset by holding the power switch for about 15 seconds and then when it finally booted back up the page refresh was incredibly slow. I tried resetting and hard resetting a few times and nothing changed. The only thing that I was thinking is that I live in the north east and right now we're going through an insane heat wave, maybe the high temperatures and high humidity is screwing with the eink or something? I'm not sure if that happens but it's the only guess I had, feel free to shoot it down if its not right. I still have the problem with the page refresh but it seems to come and go, CS is sending me a new one tomorrow which hopefully works better.

Hey there. I started the other thread without knowing that this thread existed. I didn't mean to hijack your thread, Bismar! I hope Amazon will fix this soon...
Well, just add me to the list of people affected by this ![]() |

Naa, don't really care about the thread hijack, just hoping to consolidate the gazillion threads on the kindle forums atm.

Mine did a soft reset (the Kindle oak appears with a progression bar) as I was reading a HP with the web browser. I think it happened as I was trying to set it to article mode, but now I'm not quite sure. Reading books has been problem free so far.

Well. 9 hours straight without an issue yesterday, and today, it comes and goes (the slow pages turns)... And right now it's still on the slow side of things, even after a hard-reboot.
Weird. And annoying as hell. We'll see if the next update fixes that (which I seriously doubt, but one can hope ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-03-2010 at 05:25 PM. |

I had this happen yesterday and ignored it, a little bit after it froze and I had to reset.
Happened again today while in Kindle store, page turns in the store itself were very slow and the screen flicker lasted far longer than usual. then it rebooted later on while reading. If I see it slow now I just stop and reset so it clears it, so far anyway. Hoping they get the update finalised soon. |

Strange. Restart/Reboot (soft or hard) never changed anything for me. It always went away (and came back...) on its own.
To the point where at one point today, while reading a book, I would suffer 3 or 4 slow pages turns, then 5 or 6 'good' page turns, then a few slow ones agains, etc... o_O. |

I just have my kindle 3 for almost a week now, and it started having the same problems that the others here are experiencing. I was experimenting using the text-to-speech feature and then it stopped reading suddenly and everything got frozen. I have to "hard-reboot" so that I can continue to use it.

I'd just like to make sure we're all talking about the very specific (seemingly at random) 'slow page turns/long flash to black' issue, and *not* the freezes/lock-ups/soft-reboots.
Because, in my case at least, my K3 *never* froze/locked-up/crashed/whatever, but it *does* have the long flash to black issue (sometimes...). Last edited by NiLuJe; 09-04-2010 at 05:20 PM. |

This just happened to me again. Both times it has happened I was outside, and when I went inside after a few minutes it stopped. Strange...

For those of your wondering what the hell we're talking about, here's a small (30s) clip of that strange behaviour.
The first few pages turns are *really* slow, and it takes a few more after that to get to a more or less correct speed. (I'm not even sure we're at 'normal' speeds then, but, well, at least it's usable). Not that this was on the fast side of things for the page turns to go back to normal. It usually lasts a little bit longer. (MKV (H.264/MP3) file zipped to pass both the filesize & extension requirements of the forum. Crappy lighting, tiny digital camera, heavy reencoding.) mine has done both, I have had the freeze and one reboot. But it has also done the very slow page turns, where the screen stays black, done this is a book and in the kindle store. One slow page turn issue in a book ended with a reboot by the kindle........

Well mine had a little tantrum on friday morning. I was reading a book and it froze,so I reset it. Then after it had booted up I went onto the kindle store and it just turned itself off and restarted. Since then it's been fine so far. Haven't really noticed it getting slower yet.
