I'm a Mac guy and I don't have an Intel Mac yet, so the SD card is a lifesaver. It's so quick to just slide the card into into my card reader, copy the books over and then slide the card back into the Sony Reader. No drama, no fuss.
I have about 60 books on my card so far. So I have a lot of reading to do! ![]() |

I selected yes becuase for most of last three months I was using a 2 GB SD card to hold all my books.
But, like eveyone else, the navigation started to become a problem with more that 10 pages of books, and worse, my battery life seemed to be seriously compromised. I've taken the SD card out, and now my battery life it back to normal and I limit myself to having 20 or 30 books at a time on it. Failing a proper filing system for the books, I'd almost settle for the ability to move titles from the SD card to the internal memory without a computer. That way I can take a 2GB library when I travel, but only move the books I want onto the reader. |

Well, I live in world of iLiad but I use a 2 GB CF - needs a bigger brother in near future - all the time. I need some scanned textbooks which are much to big for main memory. I use the main memory for applications. My DSLR likes CF so this is my media for mobile file transfer in general.

I have never tried using a memory card with my Sony Reader, even though I have a couple of 1GB SD cards and also one 4GB card. It seems for me the capacity of the internal memory is just enough, and I like the fact that I can save battery life by not using external memory. |

>If I get an OK from RWood, who is the original author of this thread, I am going to redo it to make it more general for all reader devices.
Probably better to create a new one. The responses from at least half a dozen folks were Reader-specific, discussing power draw and file management concerns as reasons not to use an SD card Regards, Matt |

I have PMed Alex to move it and do what he feels best about the thread.
I just don't remember reading about expansion cards for the iRex but as I think about it they must have one too. Perhaps the power issues expressed for the Reader are also part of the picture for the iRex owners but due to the shorter battery life they have not been as noticable as they are for the Reader. |

I must confess to knowing absolutely nothing about other eInk devices; do they not all have the same sort of battery life as the Reader? For me, that's one of the best things about it, knowing that I can go away on, say, a 2-week trip and not have to worry about recharging it.

Can anyone tell me how to utilize a memory card with the Reader? I've loaded a few rtf's onto a memory stick pro and placed it in the Reader. I turned it on and it remains on this "loading" screen. It have been like this for an hour. How long does this take?
Thanks for the help, C |

It should only take a few minutes -- it does index the whole card on insertion, so if you have a whole bunch of files, that will slow it down but an hour sounds excessive....

The folder doesn't really matter, Harry, it indexes the files wherever they are.

It even digs them out of the Mac OS X .Trash folder on the card if you have any in there.
