I just double checked by trying to download from the My Kindle page on Amazon.com. The suffix was TPZ.

Just check the first few bytes of the file - if they contain TPZ, they're still Topaz format. The extension doesn't really mean anything.

The .mbp file is automatically created as soon as you open the new book (.azw file). It contains info pertaining to your last page read, etc.

Rock Paper Tiger by Lisa Brackmann is now an AZW (B003SNKF9M). I still have the TOPAZ sample, but the full ebook is unavailable (unless you bought it already). See the attached screenshots from K4PC. The first is TOPAZ and the 2nd AZW.

I've only seen the lpr file when I pull ebooks off my iPod Touch.
