Yes, it looks to be very good quality leather. The light adds minimally to the weight.

I used the M-Edge Latitude Jacket on my K2 and I really liked that a lot. Everything I had read about the Amazon covers and the hook attachment system made want me to stay away from them.

However, my wife and I are leaving Saturday on a 9-day vacation in Hawaii. We are really looking to using our Kindles on the several hour flight. Since the M-Edge Jackets aren't available yet we had to have something so we bought the Amazon covers to take on our trip.

I've already decided to keep the Amazon cover for around the house. It's really quite elegant and thin and complements the Kindle nicely. I'll still get the M-Edge Latitude Jacket for future out and about because I think that it offers more protection plus it has some handy little pockets.

I kinda doubt the Kindle 3 covers are significantly smaller to warrant much of a price change. They are gorgeous. I emailed them asking when in September they were accepting orders for them. My wife wants the red Hummingbird and I want the blue Dragonfly. I was also partial to the River Bed and Avenue of Trees.

They had a bounty of beautiful images.

The more I use it the more I appreciate it. At first I thought it was a little bulky. I've carried it around a bit and find that it protects well.

I also am really liking the lighted Amazon cover.

My only concern was that the only thing anchoring the Kindle into the cover were the hooks (ie. There were no little corner straps or anything). If I was reading and held it by the case instead of holding the Kindle and the case then it felt a little "bouncy" on the right side and made me paranoid about flexing the hooks. This afternoon I simply put a small patch of velcro on the back of the Kindle and a matching piece on the inside of the case and it completely ended my stress.

Another benefit is it lifted the right side of the Kindle a tiny bit higher and made it easier for me to slip my thumb underneath it to pull out the LED booklight. Overall, I recommend the cover. Having a light built in and usable any time I want without worrying about batteries or charging is invaluable imo.

my cover just arrived! no sign of the kindle yet. It looks great and im loving the fact that I wouldnt have to get an extra light for it. Feels pretty sturdy and my cat seems to love the smell of the leather on it.

I really love the idea of the lighted cover, but I decided that ~75€ (95$! - to Germany that is) is definitely too much for me. Maybe I'll ask a friend in the US to order it for me and then send it or something like that. Mh.

Could you not buy one from Amazon UK? That would probably work out a bit cheaper for you.

Good idea, actually - but I just looked and it still ends up as 70,40€. - The UK cover's basic price is already a little more than 50 GPB.

Germany does have 19% VAT instead of 17.5% though.

OK. I'm a little surprised that you're charged the German rate of VAT. I thought that if you were buying from a British company, you'd be charged the British rate of VAT. Perhaps, though, it's because Amazon are also registered for VAT in Germany.

You're right, though; the cover is expensive. For me, though, it's worth the money. The light works very well indeed.

AFAIK Amazon.co.uk is registered for VAT in all EU countries. I don't buy a lot from Amazon, rather I use the marketplace - saves me paying the 25% VAT because most smaller companies aren't registered for VAT in DK
