![]() NormHart have you tried using WiFi instead of the 3G? The reason I ask is that if WiFi will work for you then you might want to exchange your 3G unit for a WiFi only one. I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water, as they say. The K3 far exceeds any other 6" eInk reader on the market right now. And to be truthful I've yet to hear a convincing argument for having 3G. With WiFi and USB loading and combined with a 4GB storage you should never get caught with nothing good to read. Really the only argument I might have bought into for having 3G is the ability of browsing the internet from wherever you are. But even using my fast WiFi connection and the K3's new improved web browser, it is still clunky. For example, reading this website on the K3 is not a great experience. A quote from the ever so helpful customer service email
"With Kindle's built-in wireless connectivity, you can and download a book in less than 60 seconds. Similarly, newspaper subscriptions are delivered wirelessly each morning and most magazines arrive before they hit newsstands." Right... LOL, I'll be returning this POT. (Although I did get the Wi-Fi configured on my network and the K3 connected so maybe exchanging it isn't out of the question.) ![]() (my own fault I suppose, it never dawned on me that they would replace something that worked so well with AT&T.) |

I definately noticed a difference, not for the better, between my K1 (Sprint) and my K2i (AT&T). That is the biggest reason I chose wi-fi only. AT&T stinks!

![]() I think the reason why Amazon switched to AT&T was because they are the only national GSM cellular company in the US and it makes sense from their viewpoint to make a single model of Kindle with a GSM phone that can be used around the world rather than two models one with CDMA for US and one with GSM for the rest of the world. An example of 3G impotence with AT&T: With my KDXG I tried to use 3G to download a 24MB file from my archive. Keep in mind that I live in the middle part of the huge metro area known as Dallas/Fort Worth and that AT&T is headquartered in my city about 9 miles away. There should be great 3G coverage, or so you would think. Nope, the 24MB file would never download via Whispernet. I've never been able to download even a small 300KB file in 60 seconds or less, though they do usually download eventually. When I got my K3 yesterday I immediately downloaded much of my archived library via WiFi Whispernet, including the above mentioned 24MB book, probably about 200MB and it only took a few minutes. This discussion is exactly why I'll drive my existing K2us until the wheels literally fall off of it..... AT&T coverage in my area is non-existent. I'm glad I bought when I did.

Well I have to admit that the clarity of the screen, side by side with my K2, is outstanding. So after some soul searching (and confirmation from CS) I've gone ahead and ordered a Wifi model K3 with the two year warranty and ended up saving 10 bucks.
But... I have to wait for another three weeks for delivery. <sigh> I'll return the 3G model when the replacement arrives and send the K2 off with my sister. |

Right, back to the topic.
![]() After exhaustive fiddling it turns out that the problem is caused by some weird architectural thing in my home network (ie: I've set it up all wrong!) which is being addressed as we speak. I found this out by taking it to my local coffee-shop-with-wifi where it worked JustFine(tm). Hohum. WP |
