Kindle 3 3G Graphite Here - With Photos!

I know what you mean. I worked in a training office and we wasted a ton of paper. I remember the "paper minimization" memo that was sent out, printed, to everyone. Kinda negates the whole minimization thing.

My graphite 3G arrived yesterday. I ordered on the 28th with next day delivery. So far I am in awe of the beautiful screen and it's general ergonomics. I don't think I'll need to worry about a font hack for this.

I was disappointed to find that this unit is using AT&Ts 3G, my Kindle 2 was using Sprint (which has much better coverage where I live).

The case does add a lot of bulk to the ebook. I got the case with the integrated light and find that while it's very cool the light has only one setting. It's too bright for my wife's tastes (it does throw off a lot of light). I've been reading at night on my iPad (black background with white text) but find that it strains my eyes after about an hour of reading. I was hoping this light would do the trick but no such luck.

Early US only kindle 2s were Sprint-based. Later ones used AT&T. I also have a Sprint Kindle 2 (the one in the photos; that's a DecalGirl skin on it). I get a signal just fine on both... they're just a bit slow to lock on.

I ordered both Kindles on the day they were announced. This one came a day early; the last one came on release day, I think (I'd have to dig around in my records, but I'm 90% sure it came on release day).

I don't plan to get a skin for this one, at least not as of now. I'm also left-handed and the attachment points for the case are on the wrong side.

I have a pair of kandle lights. One is white and I used it with the Kindle 2. I passed the K2 and kandle to my fiance to use, and now I have a black kandle light for this one. My only complaint about the kandle lights is that they use cold-white LEDs and I'd personally prefer warm white.

The K3 has several font choices. I ended up tweaking the options further later last night and I'm still using a serif font. I went back to the normal font, but tightened up spacing a bit.

Gave plos.org a poke, and planned to just take a pic with my phone camera as I did yesterday, but the browser is slow and freeze-prone with a bad signal as is the case in here. I'll try again when I'm at home on wifi.

Argh, the URL address bar from the browser is still on the screen, even when I go back into my book with wireless turned back off. Anyone know how to get rid of it?

I had a pdf lock up my k3 and I just help the power button for 20 secs and turned it completely off and then turned it on again

you know you've waited for your K3 for too long when you're watching these pix at least once a day to get your fix

my only gripe (and it's not really a gripe since i feel like a kid waiting for Santa to get his fat toosh down the chimney already!!!) is that it looks plastic-y but it doesn't matter i can;t wait to get mine.

It won't go well. A magazine PDF won't go well. It won't go well on any eink device with a 6" or less screen.

It's soft touch on the back and looks pretty good in person. It has a bit of a texture to the case also that gives it some depth.

One thing that did surprise me is that the badging above the screen is beige, rather than grey as I'd anticipated, but that's no big deal. (The keyboard labels are the same colour).
