Ordered 3G version on July 28th with 2-day Amazon Prime. Was in "Shipping Soon" state all day yesterday and still in that state this morning. Resigned to the fact that I'll get mine shipped tomorrow and will arrive next Tuesday -- or later.

You won't believe this...

I just got off the phone with AZ/Kindle CS with great disappointment. (pre-ordered 2 Kindles 7/28).

I mentioned the website banner "pre-order now for delivery on Aug 27th" and the agent knew nothing about it and replied, "You will have to send me a copy of that and I will look into it." What???? It gets better. When I informed him of the dozens of threads on several forums displaying detailed tracking information he replied: "Well, that's not possible. The Kindles are not shipping until Friday, Aug. 27." !!! Completely clueless.

He then went on to say that "shipping was beginning with Aug. 1 pre-orders."

For the first time, I do not have complimentary things to say about AZ customer service. This is not their first Kindle launch and there is no excuse for such ineptness and complete disorganization.

If Bezos is going to release a statement to the press announcing earlier-than-planned Kindle shipping, CS should be up to speed at the very least.

I'm still in "Shipping Soon" state today too. I was worried so I looked into it in Amazon's help and found this:

Seems the messages mean nothing. The fact they charged my bank account however, means it's on the way because they never charge until an item ships. We just have to be patient and wait for whatever carrier is bringing it.

I'm still "shipping soon". I called C.S. and got a scripted answer: "Blah, blah... high demand... blah... shipping as soon as we get them in stock."

I was adamant that when I ordered the web site still said "Release Day Delivery". He said, "I don't know anything about that." After repeating my release day mantra half a dozen times, he offered to send a message to the warehouse to see if they have any more information. Since they're busy shipping out craploads of Kindles, I'm not hopeful they'll get around to answering it any time soon, or that they'll have any useful info. I'm not used to Amazon not living up to promises, and I'm really not used to Customer Service not being more helpful.
I guess they're crazy busy and it's wearing on them.

I also ordered when it said, "order now to ensure release-date delivery" and mine only shipped today, thursday the 26th, via UPS 2-day. meaning that, since UPS doesn't deliver on Saturdays, my kindle will get here Monday, the 30th. pretty disappointed. I *know* it said "release-date delivery" which pisses me off. Seems like all my prime orders usually come via fedex, who delivers on saturdays. I wonder why they didn't do that this time?

The tracking status messages mean little, that's true enough. If you look up your tracking number on UPS or USPS or whatever, sometimes you'll see a tracking status of "Electronic shipping information received" (or similar) for a few days, because the packages was never scanned. But even so, the Amazon shipping status will still say "shipped" and display a tracking number.

Some of us have Kindles that seem to be stuck in the "Shipping Soon" phase and don't even have a tracking number (scanned or otherwise). That's a different situation. It's possible that there's a communication breakdown. Maybe they've been shipped off without a hitch but updates from warehouse computers to the order database are lagging. That's what I'm hoping, anyway.

I have gotten deliveries on Sunday evening. I bet you get it Saturday.

exactly. UPS charges you extra for saturday delivery and I doubt they'd do that on hundreds of thousands of shipments. Plus, the tracking shows the 30th as the estimated delivery date, so that's what I'm planning on. Why they didn't use fed-ex, I have no idea. they drop stuff off on saturdays.

I just got a shipping confirmation five minutes ago. It says my Kindle went out yesterday with a delivery date of tomorrow. My tracking number isn't in the UPS system (not even "electronic information received"), so I think they're sending pre-sorted palettes up the line without scanning them. Try not to get ticked off, yet. I'd bet yours has actually shipped , but the computer isn't updated.

I wonder how much of it has to do with region, too. I would imagine some warehouses are more burdened with getting Kindle orders out than others.
