3 years protection (like you say) does not exist en Europe (in form of a law) if they the manufacturer do 3 year protection you paid for it (even inderectly) and it does no cover everything especialy broken parts. For exemple, for my Apple MacBookPro, I had to paid ~500€ for extending the waranty to 3 year, or else it will be ONLY 1 year of waranty. The only thing that is more than 1 year that exist in europe (and is 2 year, not three) is hidden defect waranty ("Vice caché" in french) but it's NOT the same thing as a classic waranty. After a period of time (approx 6 month) YOU have to proove that you didn't broke it and that really a hidden defect. And a broken screen since all device leave with a non broken screen is NOT a hidden defect and it must a user interaction to be broken.

Again, the 3 or 2 year rule on Europe is NOT for waranty, but for "hidden defect" and in your case the SCREEN CONTROLLER (aka PVI6001A) is working correctly. What Bookeen called "screen controller" in your case is small chips INSIDE the screen that will not break by itself.
Your device IS*NOT under waranty/. And yes, your link is a link to a lawyer website, for sure. |

And it was not my ebook in this thread. But my Gen3 that did break and that Cybook called a "screen controller" problem was obviously a hidden defect. I had some symptoms from the beginning but it took around a year for it to break permanently. It is understandable that companies do not want to follow the EU rules but why people not working at the company should defend them is strange. |
