Regarding the DR800 specifically, I believe the only time a "normal" shutdown is performed is when the device detects that the battery is getting too low and shuts itself down. Is there any other way to cause the device to save last-page-read, bookmarks, other data, etc? I don't see a way from the UI of closing a document, but maybe I'm missing it?

I've tried opening another document, thinking maybe that would close the first one, and then do a reset, but that doesn't seem to work. IE, both documents start back at the beginning.

I'm experiencing the same problem than Shaggy. He well describe the matter.

At this moment these are the two main problems of the device:

- Random slow downs with page flipping
- Loosing information (page marks, last page read..) when we reset the device..

Then don't reset it . That's not a problem, that's simply what a reset does. Now, if something causes you to need a reset, then that's probably the true problem.

Well, any of us had to re-start the device at some point and it did not imply loosing any information of a book. With the original firmware I re-start the device many times and I never lost the page marks or "the last page read" in a book..

Despite that, its clear that it woud be great not to have to reset the device trying to fix a problem (in my case the page flipping).

Thanks for this pointer. Indeed, some early testing indicates slowdowns in page turns when a document has many bookmarks. It might explain why a firmware downgrade and upgrade fixes it, as you will lose all metadata during this procedure. Removing the appropriate metadata.db file would do the same though. We will do a more thorough analysis and hope to remedy this issue in an upcoming release.

True. However, if you do have to do a reset, it would be nice to know how to periodically trigger the book to save it's position so that you didn't have to start back from the beginning.

BY THE WAY in an upcoming release you could even fix the find word function: when you search a word it always start from the beginning of the book.. it is not practical at all.. so if you need let's say to go to to eight occurence of that word you have always to skip all the previous seven.. it shoud start from the current page or having the "find next" button

Just to add another voice to this. My slow page turning got so bad that neither my mother nor myself could stand to read books on my quite new DR800SG. We ended up bying two Nooks (one each). I have kept the iRex hoping that a new software release in the future will allow me to use it again comfortably. I do store an awful lot of books on the eReader although I did test with just a few and I still had the page turning issue. Many of my books started life as pdfs that I converted to epub with Calibre. Those same pdfs read just fine on our Nooks and on my husband's pocket Sony.................Jackie

yeah...As I said many times before on this foro, the page performance behaves very randomly....Sometimes everything works fine and the speed is great and sometimes in the middle of the book the reading experience becomes a nightmare...

I have tried different ways to transform epubs (different programs, different book sources), I have tried to avoid the page marks, I have tried different firmwares but I just cannot see a clear reason why this happen....

As I said in a previous post, I gave up on this device.. Too many software problems and with every new firmware new problems appear again..

Probably it's an excellent device but the reading experience should be much easy and simple. Like you said, I cannot even give this ereader to a friend or family because it has too many flaws.... I had other readers and despite its problems (no device is perfect) the experience was much better...

I have spent more time reading on this foro than on the device
