He's saying that there is no hack.
The hardware isn't there, there's nothing you can do.

Thanks, I mistaken.
I thought there is a "software hack" for it.

I currently have a Astak PocketPro (which I love) but it's small and kind of annoying to read for long periods of time. From the reviews I have read it seems that the DX is an excellent choice with the weight being a draw back. Will I be able to drag and drop my current PDF files to read on the Kindle, even though they are non DRM? Can I buy books from any site as long as they PDF, or do I have buy from Amazon?
Briefly ..
If you read Text books (txt, azw, prc, mobi, tpz): then Kindle 3 with 6" display is more light and is more comfortable.

If you read PDFs, scanned books, magazines, comics or newspaperes; so Kindle DX/DXG with 9.7" display will be really better.

And to be honest, no eink reader is good enough for text books at the moment.

What !
E-ink readers are perfect for text books.
Maybe PC or iPad is better for you.
My language is not supported by E-Readers yet, so I read graphical (scanned) books, but latin text books are very clear and crisp, while scanned books sometimes like gray.
I hope to have text support for my lanuage.

meem--I think JSWolf is referring to textbooks in subjects like biology, geology, geography, anatomy, etc. Many textbooks have color pictures which simply do not translate well to greyscale. And sometimes, if you can't interpret the pictures, the text isn't much help.

For literature, e-Ink works wonderfully well. It all depends what field you're in.

I went the DXG. I love it! I had a Pocket Pro that had a five inch screen. I feel like I upgraded from a bucket car to a BMW.

I am in school for English, so most of classes are mainly text, and rarely have pictures. Although it is large and my writs do get tired of holding it up for long periods of times. It has a large enough screen that my eyes don't get tired of reading for several hours. On the five inch screen I could only read for around four hours at a time before my eyes needed a break. On the DX I can read for six to eight hours without having to stop, which is great. Reading is my only escape. The DX was costly for me but well worth the cost.
