Any e-books I've ordered from Kobobooks in Canada or Whitcoulls in New Zealand has been immediately available. I thought these, and Borders, were all the same back-end.

I think that while the Borders backend is based on the Kobo one, there are some changes and it's run separately. (Both because of differing pricing/availability of titles, and their ability to use Borders gift cards/promo codes.)

Finally received a reply from Borders Customer Support last night. No explanation, just sorry for the delay and a statement that the book should have been in my online library no later than fifteen minutes after purchase ... so now at least we know what their customer service objective is! I was also told to call Customer Support should it happen again ... wish I could.

On the subject of one book, one credit card charge ... guess I was spoiled by eReader.com and Fictionwise. Even before Fictionwise swallowed up eReader both sites allowed multiple books in an order and they still do. Even now Smashwords allows multiple books to an order. Any one have experience ordering multiple books at a single sitting from sites other than eReader, Fictionwise, Amazon, Borders?

I use one-click at Amazon, which keeps credit card info on file. The charges show up separately on my cc statement, but buying any book is as simple as one click. That's one of the many user conveniences of Kindle books. Amazon is smarter than its competition. Make it easy for people to spend.

Kobo acts like Borders, Sony like eReader/Fictionwise. I think B&N falls into the Borders/Amazon category too.

Baen allows multiples - they arrive in a zip, format of your choice.

Yeah, I did my first eBook purchase at Borders.com and was slightly put out at the "long" delay of a couple of hours from purchase to being available for download. A] I'm not really sure what the hold up could be, and B] they make it sound like it should be available immediately but obviously isn't.

But all's well that ends well - got my book after all.
