Note that pbooks often suffer from the same problem. I have five or six copies of Lord of the Rings lying around my house -- from an old Bantam three-volume paperback set to a deluxe single-volume Harper Collins commemorative edition, all with differing page numbers. One must specify which edition along with the page number to be of any use. Either way, page numbers are simply an anachronistic imposition of a pbook metaphor onto ebooks, because at this point ebooks don't offer a better mechanism to replace them with. --Nathanael Last edited by Nathanael; 09-07-2010 at 02:39 AM. |

Well, at first, ADE page numbers disturbed me. "page 45-46 of 445" , now what ?
But, they are very good for one thing : they tells you the length of the books you are reading right away. 400 ADE pages will stay 400 ADE page, no mater what font / size you use. Now i'll have trouble going back to a simple % meter. With mobi you have a "goto page". But trying the figure out the number of the page you where on, well. Was a time savior when my cybook froze every now and then. I could just read the page number on the screen, then goto after I restarted. Last edited by EowynCarter; 09-07-2010 at 07:35 AM. |
