As Lastblade posted "TheBook" and Augin has been posted many times. But I've been so blind to non-eink devices that I haven't read any of the posts about them. I'll look into; Augen The Book: Preliminary evaluations Yet another Augen review and Augen The Book - potential owner modifications to reader thread to find out more. |

Thanks. While some features look attractive, the "quirks" mentioned in these posts would render The Book unsuitable to my purposes. Methinks I will wait to see if firmware updates will resolve those issues. For now, my Jetbook Lite and my older style Mentor will have to do.

I do want to say that I've enjoyed tinkering with this thing. I do want to challenge the eInk folks to not think about comparing this unit to well, say a cell phone.
The large screen, ability to dim the brightness, and the matted finish to the glass screen makes this unit VERY usable for reading. My conclusion is that a) this unit is OK for free ebooks out of the box, but no DRM; b) with the firmware upgrade it is very usabke for all ebookd. If you don't lay on your side; c) if you get The Book for it's other little functions (video, MP3, photo gallery, etc), don't bother. They work, but only so so. FWIW, I bought the GenTouch78 last night. I returned it today. Without GPS, bluetooth, or an accelerometer, it really can't do much more than my eReader. I'll be better off with an Android phone upgrade. |

5 days ago I thought I had an order placed with KM for two of these readers. This morning in my intray an email said in part, "The items listed below are no longer available so we have cancelled your order for these items." KM is probably referring to online purchases only (for many have said their stores have stocks), and given that I am in Australia, opportunities to visit a store are few. ![]() I'm not impressed, but there is little I can do other than wait and hope stocks arrive at some stage. Still, it's annoying. Cheers, |

I never thought of that. An accelerometer equipped reader would be good. But only if you can turn it off.
In the end I decided to not go back and get it. I do think that it's a pretty good reader, for that type, and the price is great. But I'll still need something larger later. " if you get The Book for it's other little functions (video, MP3, photo gallery, etc), don't bother." Those are the features that I couldn't try at Kmart as the only thing loaded on it was some free books. Still it may be around and on sale at Christmas time. ![]() |

color screen on The Book

![]() I can read for hours on TB, and less than an hour on my netbook. The matte screen on TB makes a difference. |
