Quick note to rblover: Kathy's right that the iPad allows you to drag any ePub ebook to iTunes. If you are going to have both the Kindle and the iPad pick up Calibre (which has a section here too) to run your ebook library with. It will shoot books from your library to your iPad and/or Kindle and convert them to the right format when needed (and if DRM is not an issue). I find it indispensable here.

I highly recommend Calibre! Super easy to use and if you have any questions - just ask! Someone here will know the answers. And the creator is very willing to answer questions too. It is an invaluable tool!

But it will be interesting to see if that new Kindle does impact iPad sales at all!
Magazines and comics obviously benefit from colour, but more than that isn't going to become a necessity anytime soon and not really at all for novels, people that enjoy reading will continue to do so and those that don't are not going to be won over by a digital magazine including a few videos.

I just ordered the K3-wiFi as a Christmas gift for my hubby. It's about time to share the reading gadgets as he loves to read and tried out my K2 but since it wasn't his, I think he didn't care for it. But now having the latest and greatest Kindle of his very own, I think he will change his tune! Got my order in Aug 1st before they announce the second shipping date so hopefully his will be in the first go-round. And of course, I won't make him wait until Xmas! I hope the new web browser is much improve over K2 which was workable but I basically hated it. One reason why I jumped on the iPad wagon as soon as they were available and never looked back!

MsAstoria, I thought you prefered your iPad to your Kindle? Does your hubby prefer the Kindle to the iPad?

I absolutely do prefer my iPad but can't afford two! I think he will like the K3 just fine and he's not quite the "gadget freak" that I am. The K3 will give him a very nice reader (and he reads all the time) plus he can use the browser if he wishes but generally he prefers to use his computer for surfing and playing Farmville and Age of Empires. A more portable product too that he can throw in his workbag. I betting he's going to love it!

I have an iPad and a Kindle 2. I read exclusively on the iPad for the first three months I had it, now I find I'm going back to reading more and more on the Kindle. I don't have a problem with the LCD vs. eInk display, I can adjust the iPad display to be non-eye straining. The reason is that the Kindle screen size is perfect for me, whereas the iPad line length is uncomfortable, despite every adjustment I could make to it. It also helps that the Kindle is much lighter as well as smaller. I've ordered a K3 to see if the greater contrast will enhance my reading.

The iPad is tops for reading PDFs, though. No contest there.

I totally agree. I do find the iPad too heavy for hand held book reading but can rest it on a small pillow in my lap or leave it in it's case and prop it up that way. I have to admit to spending way more time reading news apps and other related web type reading than reading my recreational books. It really has replaced my poor laptop computer for every day usage. Absolutely perfect for traveling. It's great having access to trip maps etc.
Looking forward to checking out the hubby's new K3.

I just told my mom that I will bring her my Kindle2, she has my Kindle1 already. I feel guilty not using it after I brought myself the ipad. Very smart thing Amazon did by making an app for their store. Will I get the new Kindle? Not right now. I want it but still don't think I'll use it enough but that hasn't stopped me from buying new toys before. Since I finished paying off my house I seem to have a lot of money for stuff I used to buy only if I budget for it.

Did you try Stanza? It lets you set the the margins, which should give you the line length you find most comfortable?
