Buying eInk devices from manufacturers with bookstores (say, a Sony and a Kindle), can make monetary sense if you take advantage of the free DRM'd ebooks from their respective stores. (Provided you think you get enough free worthwhile ebooks from each store.)

Yes, a Kindle and a Kindle App will sync. My DXG and Kindle4PC do.

abookreader said "In fact, every book I buy gets unlocked immediately and backed up to my own storage solutions where it can then be distributed to whatever family device I choose."
The force is strong with this one....... That is the only way to actually own the books you buy..... |

My multiple devices list is a matter of necessity due to failing eyesight. When I could no longer read books, I found the EB1150 and learned how to increase fonts on ebooks. Pretty soon, that was not working, so I tried the bigger fonts and eInk of a Sony. That really never helped because of the low contrast between text and background. So when the iPad was announced, I pre-ordered on the first day. So far, it is perfect. I hope it will stay that way for a long time.

I wouldn't have bought a Kindle if iPad had come out before, or at the same time. I want to read unlimited online news, as well as e-books from a wide choice of bookstores, with ease -- no converting, full access to multimedia and color, etc.
I'm going to buy a Dell Streak so I can do likewise when I don't carry my iPad. |

I, ahem, own a few. I can't help it -- I'm another one of those people who loves gadgets. I love bargains, too, and I've been able to get all of mine pretty cheaply:
ACER Aspire One Netbook -- I use this as my primary computer, but when I first started reading e-books this is what I used, with Mobipocket. Palm PDA -- I use it for reading in bed at night, because it's backlit. I got it off of ebay, cheap, and ordered a new battery and installed it. I use Mobipocket on it, and it works great for me. It was my first "dedicated" reading device. JetBook Lite -- I got it from NewEgg, I think it was, for $99. Sony PRS-300 -- Couldn't pass it up. It was $107 from Buy.com. Kindle 2 US -- Another one I couldn't pass up, because I grabbed one of the refurbs for $109, including shipping. This one seems to be the best deal so far and I'm really enjoying it. I too make sure that I "unlock" all of my books so I can put them on all of my devices. I actually do read on all of them, although lately the K2 is staying with me in my purse. The JBL seems to be a little hardier, so I take it with me if it might get knocked around or damp or something. The Sony stays beside my favorite chair. No, I can't sync across them, and I DO read the same book on more than one. It usually isn't that hard to get to my place in the book, though. I can generally remember what is happening in the story. |

I started reading on my PDAs, the most recent being the T/X. I still use the T/X but wanted something I could take outside and read at lunch or weekends on the deck so I got the Nook.

Not yet.
![]() Actually, I'm kind of a princess (as in "the princess and the pea") when it comes to weight, and the iPad seems to be on the heavy side of what I'm comfortable holding for any length of time. On the other hand, if somebody wants to send me one... |
