Now that she has that iPhone, download "Txtr" from the app store, and she can read the Sony books you have for your PRS-600....

I DO think a camera is highly likely, if for no other reason then for spreading Facetime beyond the IPhone 4. Still, it's worth keeping in mind that this time LAST year, it was widely expected that the iPod Touch would get a camera in September 2009, and it didn't.
I believe in what you say entirely. It was the guy in the shop that told her that. We are not in the States, so you can imagine what kind of filtering and distortion affect the information we receive here.

That is very kind of you to point that out. Fantastic. That would be a good excuse to "borrow" it from her.

The application that I am really eager to see is a calendar that could measure up or oven even overtake "calendar" of Treo, which is functional and that became essential in my professional and personal scheduling.

You may want to take a look at Pocket Informant, iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad version of a long standing productivity tool. It's quite nice and provides quite a lot more calendar functionality than the built in calendar. It also provides very good task management functionality.

Also @OP, you should plan on buying an iPhone in a year or two. Almost everyone I know who bought an iPod Touch moved up to an iPhone when their contract expired if they could afford it.
Have you seen the HTC Desire? (Android based) I have thought many times about upgrading from a Touch to an iPhone (after they introduced the 3G model of course), but the new Android based smart phones are really as good and somewhat cheaper.

But with the iPhone they can keep and use all the apps they bought for the Ipod Touch. Plus, with the 16gig 3GS now $99 on contract, there are not many Android phones that are cheaper......

But, for first time buyer and (here in the US) folks that can't deal with AT&T, Android phones are a great choice...... They even have a Kindle app now for Android!

Beppe is from Italy.
AT&T is not an issue there.

Also I believe Apple has to sell their iPhones in Italy unlocked. So you basically can choose your provider freely

That's right. Here in Denmark the THC Desire is roughly - at an informed guesstimate - 25-30% cheaper* than the 4th gen iPhone. I didn't think about apps because so far I've only paid for one, single app.

*So far iPhone 4 is apparently only sold unlocked here, so I couldn't compare any offers with plans (but they tend to make the phone more expensive anyway).

I will look at it. The one of iPhone is one step below Treo.

It might very well be as you say. I tend to believe that the farther one goes from the source the ratio between false information and the truth will increase with the square of the distance if measured in energy.

I know that it is not the case. They are locked. It is just a provider with a different name. I do not care because, exactly for these reasons, I use a cheap phone that calls, receive calls and handles SMS. and that's it. It is small, light and I can bring it everywhere.

Really? Interesting. I know that there was lot of discussions last year when the 3GS came out here in German forums that its tethered to German Telekom (which everyone hates ...)

Lots of people then went to Italy to get an unlocked one.

(edit) iPhone è compatibile con ogni scheda SIM o operatore in tutto il mondo?
Doesn't that mean it works with every SIM card? Found that at the Italian Apple Store

Right now with the iPhone 4 its the same, German ones are locked to Telekom, in France and the UK the phones are unlocked.

I personally use an (unlocked) Motorola F3 for 20 Euros to make calls

I am attracted by the Android machines. But if wife goes on with iPod I will have to follow. Having the same hardware simplify things in a way when we travel together: it reduce the stuff we have to take with us.

These gadgets are nice but a real pain in the neck sometime.
