My update went OK, the WiFi reception is better at the far end of the house now.

I've updated my iPad (took about 90 minutes to download and install). I can't say that I notice any improvement in the WiFi - it still drops out in my bedroom, which is at the other end of the house from my Wifi router.

That will not change. The main problem stemmed from security protocols asking for passwords on a frequent basis. Now the iPad and router recognize themselves at all time. It was only happening with older routers.

Of course there were those few devices that had clear hardware deficiencies. Those can only be replaced by Apple.

Slightly off topic...

I'm assuming that's a reference to the extremely lengthy back-up that needs to happen before the software update.

This has been a problem for me and for many others (based on the number of posts about the issue in the apple support forums iPad sync section.)

I started to do the update and the back-up was taking forever: the bar was at < 10% an hour into the process. So I started looking through the forums for any new theories on what may be causing the problem and I saw repeated finger-pointing at the Zinio app.

I canceled the update, removed Zinio, deleted the iPad back-up in iTunes and tried again... the whole process including back-up took 30 minutes. I have synced a couple of times since then and the back-up is taking less than a minute.

There may be other apps with file handling or back-up flag issues that may also be causing this problem, but Zinio is definitely one of them.

Stanza used to have this problem too-I thought it had been fixed at some point...either thru an OS or iTunes update. Unfortunately, I only read PDFs in Stanza now, so my library isn't as huge as it used to be...maybe it was reintroduced at some point?

Mine is a 32GB and it still has 23GB left. A basic sync takes 8 minutes. The download took 11minutes and the update 9.
And I haven't had another wifi cut...

Download in 11 min, install in about 9 min, too. All works kind of as before. Safari runs maybe a little faster, but that could also be my Wifi hub.

I think that the wifi fix improved communications protocol... But I don't know anything about that...

Worked perfectly for me but then I've not had any real issues either.

In other words it will work with the original WEP encryption scheme.

What makes up most of your 6gb or so of data, is it music, videos or something else using one of apple's own apps? The main things that seem to increase backup times are 3rd party apps containing a lot of data, in my case I would guess it is comic zeal since that accounts for most of the used space on my ipad.

Thousands Photographs and home movies. I listen to music with StreamToMe, directly from the host PC so what I thought would occupy lots of space doesn't. I could have gone with 16 GB if I'd known.

It has been about 24 hrs now, and I have not lost my wifi connection yet. Not even overnight. Previously, I lost it every few minutes.

Less importantly, it seems to be speedier.

Not even reading on Zinio lost the connection. I'm very happy with the upgrade.

No more drops with my old D-Link router. Signal is better at the far end of the house, but not much.
I was about to buy another router. This update saved me a few bucks.
