She does look very young at first glance anyway. However she isn't actually showing anything she couldn't show on any beach around here so it is a stretch to call it porn or (worse) kiddie porn. Personally I am more offended by violence.

IMO asian girls of the same age tend to look younger than non-asian girls. Not to mention that actors generally have access to better skincare + makeup. To me she looks 18+.

I don't know what the complainant's beef was but isn't there a point to the concern that the actress was "portraying" a 14 year old girl, and portraying a 14 year old girl with no clothes on. One of the features of narrative arts is that viewers, readers listeners suspend their disbelief - so for this film to work we have to believe that a 14 year old is getting naked. The issue seems to be no different from the portrayal of extreme violence - no pregnant asylum seeker really gets eviscerated with a rusty table fork by a crazed Hells Angel - but that that is what is portrayed is the issue. Having said all that I'm not sure I would find either this poster or my made up example offensive - and if I did I would just stay out of their way.

http://sixtwentyseven.blogspot.com/2...hi-no-koi.html "Tenshi no Koi stars Sasaki Nozomi as Ozawa Rio, a 17 year old girl who has experienced life more than others. Due to a traumatic incident when she was 14..." And, FWIW, the only "nudity" in the movie is a short scene (with the character alone in a room) that is very dark, backlit, and shown from the back of the character-- even less graphic than the movie poster (which is, unsurprisingly, designed to sell tickets.) ![]() ![]() It is much less skin than you see in the classic 1968 Romeo and Juliet-- in which the actors actually are under 18-- which I would hope most people wouldn't be offended by. This reminds me (the root of the "controversy", not the movies-- I haven't actually watched My Rainy Days yet, though I scanned through it) of another Japanese film from a few years back-- has a 20ish actress playing a 17ish character-- but this time, there actually are sexual situations in the movie, and (lots of) nudity. The movie won several awards, and is sold at Amazon (uh, oh, I see a boycott coming on!) I wouldn't recommend it for my unnamed correspondent (his head would explode) but I would for anyone else. IMDB Review Amazon Hey! I notice that Amazon has this one, too-- another award-winning film depicting teen prostitution in Japan (no nudity, no sex) that is worth watching: IMDB Review Amazon |

Hrmmm... I'm irritated, but not morally outraged. I don't like the 'hey, let's just stick a naked chick on the cover/poster!' attitude. If she wanders round naked a lot in the movie, fine. If it illustrates a key plot point, fine. Otherwise, at least be fair and provide some eye candy for the folks who prefer seeing naked men. Geez!

No I'm not offended but I'm not sure why you're surprised someone is. My view is that people can choose whatever moral stance they want as long as they don't impose it on others (like me).

imbd often has movie posters and trailers on their front page for terribly offensive films like the Twilight saga or The Lord of the Rings, but that doesn't stop me from visiting the site to view the vast library of information it contains. I'm a big fan of spite, but this is going a bit far. I also really enjoy the irony of someone visiting a site that aids and abets copyright infringement (viewed by many on this board as a "crime" akin to theft), but leaves the site due to almost nudity. I think that moral compass must have encountered some magnetic interference. I'm also enjoying the idea (though I'm sure it's not the case) that this person went to this site in hopes of downloading some Japanese gore films. ![]() |

I'm more offended, or maybe disappointed, that someone could actually be offended by such things these days.
Reality check here: Teens have been having sex for thousands of years before movies were even invented, and, they'll be having sex long after your dead. Accept it, live with it and move on to ACTUAL problems. Seriously, are people actually more worried about what a movie portrays than the actual realities many REAL people suffer daily? Art imitates life, art does not create the reality, it can only reflect it. If you want to get pissy or start your own 'cause', start working on fighting the actual slave trade and sexploitation of runaway teens and such, don't waste your time on movies that portray teen sexuality, or have "racey" movie posters. |

It's not a binary either/or situation. Being concerned about the sexualization of children, both real and perceived, doesn't mean I'm oblivious to other very serious even tragic problems in the world.
