I agree. New and improved is not always better but almost always more expensive. Look at the razor blade companies. This is old technology but they keep on bringing out new blades every few months that we really don't need and at a higher price.

No regrets on my $399 Kindle 1 (other than no further updates from Amazon). There's lots of new and shiny stuff out there, but I've gotten two good years out of my K1.

It's part of life any more. Something better and cheaper will always come out.

I was more than happy to delay my MacBook purchase for about three months in order to wait for the next refresh of the product line. Glad I waited, since that ended up being the first of their aluminum unibody models.

I paid $359 for a Kindle and got my money's worth out of it long ago. No regrets.

I could see someone complaining if they bought a device for $300 and it becomes obsolete and unsupported a few months later. But if the device still works, there's plenty of books to buy, and you can still use it the way it was intended, what's the big deal about something better coming out? So there's a shinier toy out now, "oh no." A better device becoming available should not in any way stop you from continuing to get the same value from your current device as you did before the new device came out.

I purchased mine about 10 months ago. I wanted an eReader and I purchased it. Even when the latest and greatest new one comes along, I will still be able to electronically download and read books. No regrets.

Amusing... and true!

Hi all,

of course, there is heartache when buying something and finding the price drops a short time later - ask anyone who has bought any piece of technology!

The sentiments voiced here are accurate: pay your money, and enjoy your purchase. I do, all the time.

Now that I am a full 53 and counting (for some considerable time to come, I hope), I look back on the technology that I grew up with and what I have today.

How extraordinarily cheap it is! And what it can do - so easily! - staggers me. I just read a preview of a story sent direct to my phone by Amazon, and now I know enough to avoid that author for a while. An unimagined facility even a few years ago.

I am very much looking forward to my first ereader. All I need do is decide which one... <smile>

Cheers,
