I consider myself pretty much liseusified - I use my liseuse every day and rarely resort to paper books - and I was thinking maybe now is the time to just get rid of the this rump of dead trees. Trouble is, I don't think I can do it. This is only partly rational - some of the 500 paper books are reference and academic books that I might use at some point - but most are novels. For example I have the last 8 novels of Iris Murdoch in hardback, they take up an inordinate amount of space, I shall likely never read them again, (apart from The Sea, The Sea), I could get them as ebooks. Why don't I get rid of them - being hardback I could probably get as much for them at the English Bookshop where I live in Denmark. as the ebooks would cost. I don't know why I won't get rid of them but I won't.

Maybe liseusification can happen alongside the continued existence of paper books - I hope so. Maybe paper books will become a bit like vintage cars - nobody would buy a vintage car simply as a means of transport, but there are people who see something of value in just having and maintaining vintage cars.
People often think they will never read a book again - but in a few years, they find themselves doing it again anyways
But yeah keeping books will one day be akin to keeping wine, and e-books for everyday reading. There will always be something not digitized (if I'm not mistaken).

Then again, I did think ePub would win the format war and that's looking doubtful now. So take my predictions with a grain of salt.
I think paper books will still be more than a toy But yeah less and less an everyday thing.
As for ePub, the jury is still out!

I understand it to mean helping our fellow citizens to learn about and appreciate the many advantages of using a liseuse for reading upon compared with reading traditional paper books.

You've heard of electricity and electrification, yes?
Liseuse and liseuseification follow the same language pattern
Try doing that trick with "e-book reader" and see how far you get..

You're thinking small, if a liseuse is cheap you buy a new one, leave the old one laying around, maybe keep different info in each one. Maybe have a large one at home and a 5" liseuse you carry around with you. When you can hand one to a child and won't be overly angry if they break it that's the point where we win. Ubiquitous liseuses.

Doesn't have that 'ring' to it that liseuseification has.

Well patents unlike copyrights do expire so in a few years the early e-ink stuff developed in the 90's will be open for anyone to manufacture. A few more years after that the advances will open up. A free market will drive down prices and then a prs 505 or kindle 1 type device will end up costing about as much as a portable cd player did before ipods became popular.

$30-$50 for a no frills liseuse means you might have 2 or 3 laying around. Someone sitting at their computer might reach for one to use as an extra flash drive and then lend it to a friend as a way of transferring data. I've done that myself with an old ipod shuffle. Imagine someone in star trek holding a small stack of PADDs, they pass them around to other people in the room and don't much worry about it. That's the future of the liseuse I think.

In the city where I live one can use free citybikes. You put a 20 kroner coin (about £2.50) in a slot to unlock the bike, use it for as long as you like, and the return it to any bike station in the city - your 20 kroner is returned when you re-lock the bike.

In some libraries on can borrow a liseuse on which to read the ebooks that one can also borrow.

Now, how about combining these ideas and greatly extending the number of outlets? There's no reason why people have to own a liseuse in order to become lisuseified.

Here in the US, that bike would be checked out, cut up, and sold as scrap, and the funds used to buy meth or crack. We can't even have public copper.

So maybe the process of liseuseification has to begin in more civilized parts of the world - and maybe that would have a civilizing influence on less civilized parts!
