Just FYI; On windows, at least, the Books you purchase from Sony are stored in My Documents/My Books/CONNECT Reader. They are given horrific names, but they should be there, which might solve some of the RE-DOWNLOADing and file transferring problems; A lot quicker to stick 'em on a flash drive and load them on the other computer than re-download from Sony, unless the DRM is a problem...

Cheers,

DRM doesn't seem to be a problem with this -- I've moved all my files out of Connect and organized them elsewhere using dir/subdir structures, even changed the filenames to something less horrific, no problems. I just either drop the files directly on the Reader from windows explorer, or navigate to them via the drives listed at the bottom left in Connect, depending on which seems best to me at a given moment. No problems with the approach so far.

The DRM just seems to check if the device opening the file is registered to the same Connect Account as the file itself is. I can even read a DRMd file in Connect from the PC's hard-drive just fine ... if I wanted to do that, that is.

That's what I suspected, but haven't needed to / been bothered to test that out yet :-)

That's one of the nice things about MobileRead -- you don't have to test everything yourself.

scottcstoness, thanks for the heads up on the file location. I've used that for some fixes. If the post-download crash were the only problem, that would be a great workaround. However, it remains a workaround, and in any case the process for manually downloading should be easier.

And BTW, the DRM is not an issue -- both PCs and readers are authorized on the same account and I have successfully transferred files that way.

When the software crashes in the initial download (which has happened to me multiple times) there is nothing on my PC to back up or to manually copy to a card.

I also experience this frustration when trying to get all purchased works on all authorized devices. Since both my wife and I travel extensively, and we each purchase books independantly, I can't take her card and copy books from it while she's in Singapore and I'm in Brussels - it's that pesky time/space colocation thing that I haven't quite gotten down.

Don't get me wrong. I love the reader (well, I would if it put a page-changing button where a right-hander could get to it, anyway). I just think the Connect software needs some major work.
