I have no clue how to solve it, so I just bought a cake and ate it myself while quietly weeping in a corner.

It's a trick question. There is only just one fruitcake and it just keeps getting passed around. It's so hard by now that it can't be cut.

As for the next puzzle... well, I know what the question is, I just haven't worked out the answer myself yet!

Hmmm... Why not post it anyway then? Not as a puzzle for each of us to solve in spoilers, but as a problem we can all discuss together. (no promises that we'll actually solve it of course, if you're still stumped.)

Well, I know how to solve it, it's just complicated to think about. I'd rather be sure I understand exactly what I'm talking about before posting the question.

However, I will post it by this time tomorrow even if I haven't completely worked it out myself.

Imagining there's still cake though, I would do it like this: Spoiler: Use two cuts to carve a cross on the cake, cutting it into 4 equal pieces. Stack the 4 pieces on top of each other, and cut the whole stack in two with one cut. I now have 8 equal pieces. Where's the next puzzle, then?
