A lot of people are very, very unhappy with Bookeen, Yvan, due to the way that they just "dumped" their e-book Reader, the CyBook, with no warning and no explanation. There's a CyBook mailing list from which, to put it mildly, Bookeen won't be receiving many Christmas cards this year .

I hope Sony gave out accurate information, if so that is very exciting news!

Hmmm. I'll believe it when it happens . Last time I spoke to Sony I was told that there were "no plans" for a European launch. As has been discussed before, it's probably the legal stuff around the Connect store that's the issue, rather than the Reader itself.

Well it is in the Metro this morning (the free London morning newspaper) as releasing in June at £300!!! I could not find a net link on their site (Future Gizmos on page 17)

This follows a review in the Financial Times last week (if only I knew how to link to other posts...)

They wont sell many at £300 surely...

Oh well, if the "Metro" says it it must be true then . Seriously, though, that's good news.

£300 seems not too out of line with the price of other things. We often get a direct US$ to £ "translation" (eg something which costs $100 becomes £100 in the UK, which is almost $200), so at least £300 is better than £350. Presumably that price is inclusive of VAT too.

Wah....Questioning the Metro... It is Gospel... I love the tag on the story which quotes the author as a "Self Confessed Techno Gipsy"

It is a good point - The Metro may not be the most reliable publication but it is edited and the guy is contactable i assume.

I think the Financial Times story confirms though that it is coming (even though it does not mention price). A paper like that doesnt bother with idle blog banter in print...

Also, there is no mention of VAT. That will be another lazy 17.5% no doubt!

The story also quotes books at £3 - £9 each...

If that really is the price, it'll be considerably cheaper to buy one from the US. Even with shipping costs and all import duties you can get one for under £250.

I agree - I wonder if the Metro does actually know the price. Maybe they just figured it could not be any more than the old direct translation chestnut...

You certainly did get a bargain, col! I paid double what you did - the cost of being an "early adopter" perhaps . When I bought mine, they were selling at well above retail (typically US$450-500) on eBay.

I paid almost £300 for mine including shipping and import taxes but I wouldn't expect to pay that kind of cash for a UK one.

No doubt those of us with US registered devices in the UK won't be able to purchase content from the UK store. Or will find that to do so would require re-registering and losing the ability to view our previously purchased books.

Hmm, I wonder if you could just call Sony and tell them you moved?

Just bought a reader in the US - does anyone here have an account at the US connect store? - or have a method for getting an account.

Thanks
