at that price why not just get an iPad. I think the both the Kindle DX and and the PRS 900 are overpriced, Especially since you are going off to college the iPad would suit you better for multi formats etc. at almost the same price.

Actually, the iPad is not a bad idea really. But to be honest, to get the most out of the iPad as a reader, you'd have to know how to strip DRM and maybe jailbreak it.

I'd say get the ipad. It would be the best device for PDF's, textbooks, and other academic tasks.

If that is not in the budget, or you really want eink, get the new Kindle. Although I think it is overpriced, it looks like a really great device with a sleek design.

Have you looked at any of the netbooks. Some of them are about $300 and would handle PDF files better than either of the ereaders you mentioned.
