I really liked Amber Magic and am bummed that Amazon is the only place to get it. I do not own a kindle and do not want to read only on my desktop.

I wish a good, inexpensive, tablet with android or windows mobile would come out. That way I could get all the reader software by the different ebook vendors and not be limited at all.
I think I could live with the LCD screen again if it were large enough.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't checked back here for a few days.

@moe the cat: thanks greatly for the pointer and the link.

@thafrogggg: Sorry to disappoint. I'm working on other formats, but making no promises. Google directories as an Epub is a likely way I'll be distributing in an open-reader format. Unfortunately, they have not materialized. Just like BN with their promises of letting me in by the end of summer hasn't happened. I'm sort of waiting on a few organizations that haven't gotten their act together yet. The good news is that I do plan to release the Haven Series in Epub when someone lets me do it directly to the reader. And I'll do it FAST when they open the gates.

Not disappointed, just getting "antzy". Just tell me what organization I need to hold hostage until they get off their collective butts for you.

I would recommend Smashwords, but I do not know if their process is "released directly to the reader". I think they have a modern version of the "Jargonator" (for those of you who remember Dilbert's desktop games) that makes an epub format that Smashwords will then put up onsite for purchase.

I will keep waiting and will purchase once they are located in a place and in a format my Sony 505 can read. The series is worth the wait in the end.

Why not do it through Smashwords? That's where I buy a lot of ePub books for my Sony.

Hello again, rhadin and thaf. I just loaded up the whole series on BN today, they should go live in a few days. Not totally sure if that will end up EPUB though. I put them up with no DRM, and I uploaded them in EPUB... but not sure yet how they will look when downloaded. BN might put something in there that prevents people from xfering off the nook. I'll investigate.

So far, I haven't gone with Smashwords because I'm trying to avoid "middle men" altogether. I think they are a wonderful outfit and I might change my mind, but in my writing history whenever I put an office person between myself and my customer, my books stop selling. Cold. So I like the direct control that I'm getting with Amazon and BN now.

HOWEVER, Google is supposed to open up their direct upload system soon, (they are also late) and that would allow me to hand out more generic file types. I'll keep everyone posted.

I'm not an author, so I'm not sure what all is involved in the differences between retailers, but I will generally buy a book from smashwords before any other place. The vast majority of my books have come from smashwords, actually. I have heard other authors say they sell more on amazon than they do on smashwords, and so putting a book on smashwords may be less of a huge moneymaker, and more of an "appealing to a worldwide audience" type of thing. I guess I'd think that you could only increase your sales/spread of the book by adding smashwords to your arsenal? (I won't/can't? buy BN books, and I rarely buy from amazon, as I can only easily read those on my ipod touch, and it's a much less satisfying way to read for me)

That being said, I did download your epub from your site, thank you!
