But what about the flicker from flourescent lights? I'm used to flourescent lights having a flicker rate of 60 Hz. When CRT monitors are set to 60 Hz, it causes immediate eyestrain for me, and can lead to headaches after many minutes. Doesn't anyone else here get eyestrain/headaches from reading on CRT monitors? (LCD monitors don't flicker, so they eliminate the problem.)

CRT monitors? How quaint - haven't used one of those in years
![]() Obviously "flicker" isn't going to be a problem with the Sony Reader ![]() |

60 Hz is an old friend. My old CRT and TV both used it. My first week in the UK drove me nuts with the constant flicker from the flourescent lights, the TV, and the monitors that were all running on 50 Hz. (Early metric system standards.)
Now some of my friends, hard core gamers all, feel that they have an advantage in their games when viewed over a CRT as it has (they say) a faster response rate than an LCD. |

Compact fuorescent, CF, is not the same as ordinary fluorescent. I use a soft light one for paper books and it has no flicker. What I like most is that it is better with yellowing paper, it makes it look whiter. Since I don't have an eink reader yet I wondered if it would "make the white" come out more?

To make me totally happy, this reader needs some sort of built in lighting. |
